The call for more student voice was resuscitated by Griffin W. Foster in 2021, and thus, The Acorn was born. While a school newspaper is not a novel idea, such a vehicle of, and for students, had not existed at Oak Bay for many, many years. The paper not only focuses on in-school events, celebrations, and daily high school life, but also national and world issues. We have several writers who contribute either weekly or bi-weekly, depending on their availability. In the end, it is student-led and operated. Current Editor-in-Chief, Lena Dietsch, is an exceptional leader who keeps the team organized to meet weekly publication deadlines!
