Congratulations to the Swim Team on their fantastic accomplishments this weekend at the Island Swim Meet! Our own Yang Bao sang the opening national anthem in both English and French. 6 relays qualified for provincials, as well as individual swimmers Rowan Lawlor, Zoe Lubben, Tamba Boamah and Nolan Greenwood. Oak Bay finished 6th overall!

Congratulations to the Oak Bay cross country team, who finished their league races with the junior girls team finishing in 1st, Junior boys 1st, senior boys 2nd, and senior girls 1st.  We wish them the best of luck in their Island Zone Championships tomorrow at Beaver Lake.

Oak Bay High’s Social Justice and G.S.A. club with be starting up this week with Mrs. Laing. Come by room 222 on any Tuesday at lunch. The focus of this club is inclusivity, education, and fostering a healthy, welcoming school culture. Starts today—we’ll see you there! Everyone is welcome

This Wednesday is Spirit Day! Wear your PJs and bring your favorite stuffed animal! Advisory teachers, please remind your students.

The Halloween Dance is coming up next Wednesday, October 29th, from 7-10 PM. Tickets will be on sale this week at lunch by the social stairs $5.00 each. Hope to see you there.

Prospective Student Information Session in Victoria University of Toronto will be here at Oak Bay on Nov. 7th at lunch in the Career Centre.  If you are unable to make it to our session, they will also be at St. Michaels University School on Nov. 5th from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm.  This event is for prospective students and their families and supporters. UVic Law is hosting a BC Law School Information Session open to anyone interested in applying to a BC law school or learning more about the application process. Junior Achievement BC (JABC) TechWorks – All students can apply for this in-person one-day event to explore and learn more about careers in Mech Eng, Civil Eng, Electronics & Computer Science through hands-on learning.  This event will be at the Camosun Interurban Campus on December 4th from 9:30 am to 2:15 pm.  Bus transportation and lunch will be provided.  Applications can be picked up in the Career Centre and are due by November 3rd, but don’t delay applying, as spots are limited.  https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/news–events

Forum for Young Canadians
Applications are now open for the 2026 Forum for Young Canadians National Summit.  Forum 2026 will welcome 300 youth (aged 15-18) from across Canada to Ottawa for three week-long sessions of behind-the-scenes access to Parliament Hill, conversations with decision-makers, and hands-on simulations of the democratic process.  The program dates are February 8-13, 2026, March 8-13, 2026 and March 22-27, 2026.   Applications close October 26, 2025  https://forum.ca/apply.

UVic Gustavson School of Business has scheduled a series of workshops for the fall.  AI 101: using artificial intelligence in university and your career, Entrepreneurship 101: what makes a good side-hustle?, and Finance 101: personal finance for students preparing for college and university.  To attend any of these, students can register here.  BCom workshops – Gustavson School of Business – UVic  

Volunteering Opportunities

IReStore is looking for volunteers. They have two locations – Victoria ReStore at 721 Vanalman Avenue, and Westshore ReStore at 849 Orono Avenue.  Both stores support Habitat Victoria helping to raise funds for local working families to achieve affordable homeownership in our local communities.  ReStores are open 7 days per week, with a particular need for weekend volunteers – Student volunteer shifts are 2-4 hours between 9:00am – 5:00pm (11:00am – 5:00pm on Sundays).  Students are welcome to request specific shifts, and we can be very flexible for the most part.   More specifics on this can be discussed at time of application.   They ask that students commit to at least their full 30 hours with us (100 for WEX). On the job training is provided.  Anyone under 19 years must have parent/guardian permission.  16+ only.  Volunteers must be able to work independently, follow direction, and also collaborate with employees and other volunteers.
