Grad Games – California Kickball on Wednesday, October 15th, at lunch on the turf.

Senior Girls Basketball tryouts begin TODAY after school in the small gym and continue tomorrow morning before school starts at 7:30.

Pacific Opera Tickets….  Are you interested?
Are you interested in going to see this Fall’s Pacific Opera?  Ms Wright has acquired 10 free tickets for ‘students’ to see the Opera Performance of the ‘Turn of the Screw’ on Friday, October 24th at 7:30 pm.  Just for Students, as this is part of their Ticket Access Program for Youth. Please see Ms Wright in room 146 to get your tickets.

There will be a Police Camp presentation in the Career Centre at lunch TODAY. Junior Achievement BC (JABC) TechWorks – All students can apply for this in-person one-day event to explore and learn more about careers in Mech Eng, Civil Eng, Electronics & Computer Science through hands-on learning.  This event will be at the Camosun Interurban Campus on December 4th from 9:30 am to 2:15 pm.  Bus transportation and lunch will be provided.  Applications can be picked up in the Career Centre and are due by November 3rd, but don’t delay applying, as spots are limited.  https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/news–events

Forum for Young Canadians
Applications are now open for the 2026 Forum for Young Canadians National Summit.  Forum 2026 will welcome 300 youth (aged 15-18) from across Canada to Ottawa for three week-long sessions of behind-the-scenes access to Parliament Hill, conversations with decision-makers, and hands-on simulations of the democratic process.  The program dates are February 8-13, 2026, March 8-13, 2026 and March 22-27, 2026.   Applications close October 26, 2025  https://forum.ca/apply.

Grade 9 & 10 Careers in Health Explore Day – Friday October 24 (Pro D) – 9 am – 2 pm.  This event is a great opportunity for students to learn about career pathways in health through a fun hands-on explore day.  See Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre for an application and the website for more details about the day.  https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/news–events   The deadline to apply is Tuesday, October 14th.  

UVic Gustavson School of Business has scheduled a series of workshops for the fall.  AI 101: using artificial intelligence in university and your career, Entrepreneurship 101: what makes a good side-hustle?, and Finance 101: personal finance for students preparing for college and university.  To attend any of these, students can register here.  BCom workshops – Gustavson School of Business – UVic  

Volunteering Opportunities

If you are looking for volunteer hours for graduation, consider child minding at Sundance-Bank Elementary School, 1623 Bank St. Parents will be on site for a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting while you play games and keep the children busy with fun activities.  There are four dates that they need your assistance with. Oct. 8th, 6:15-8:00 pm, January 14, April 8, and May 13.  If you are interested, please see Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre to sign up.  

ReStore is looking for volunteers. They have two locations – Victoria ReStore at 721 Vanalman Avenue, and Westshore ReStore at 849 Orono Avenue.  Both stores support Habitat Victoria helping to raise funds for local working families to achieve affordable homeownership in our local communities.  ReStores are open 7 days per week, with a particular need for weekend volunteers – Student volunteer shifts are 2-4 hours between 9:00am – 5:00pm (11:00am – 5:00pm on Sundays).  Students are welcome to request specific shifts, and we can be very flexible for the most part.   More specifics on this can be discussed at time of application.   They ask that students commit to at least their full 30 hours with us (100 for WEX). On the job training is provided.  Anyone under 19 years must have parent/guardian permission.  16+ only.  Volunteers must be able to work independently, follow direction, and also collaborate with employees and other volunteers.   • Receiving and sorting donations
  • Cleaning and tagging donations
  • Merchandising the store floor
  • Keeping the store clean and tidy
