The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at BC Children’s Hospital and Department of Orthopaedics at UBC, invites interested students to attend the 3rd annual flagship Women In Orthopaedics (WORTH) workshop on Saturday, June 7th, from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm.   This workshop is open to all young women in high schools (grades 10-12), including women-identifying individuals and non-binary and gender non-conforming students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. We aim to provide more insight and clarity on careers particularly in the areas of orthopaedics and engineering. We also aim to have an interactive set of sessions including hands-on learning workshops and career panels featuring incredible women orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, engineers and allied health workers. We have attached a flyer for the event here with a tentative schedule outlined, **please note schedule is subject to change based on registration numbers but date and start time are set**. The workshop will take place in-person at BC Children’s Hospital.  Details for registration can also be found here: https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3IqpTzuyPp6091A. Deadline to submit the workshop application is May 24, 2025. While we recognize that it might be difficult for students to travel down to the lower Mainland to attend the workshop, students from across the province are welcome to apply. To help make attendance more accessible, we are offering one scholarship (valued at $2000) for a student who resides and/or attends school outside of the Lower Mainland, which will cover the cost of travel and accommodation of the student and their guardian. Students interested in applying for this scholarship can submit an application here: https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bqmc1y0KavHgBxA. Volunteering Opportunities

Any students looking for volunteer opportunities may be interested in helping prepare for an Event on May 17th to help raise funds for school breakfast and music programs in SD#61. Breakfast2Music is collecting clothes and moving dozens of heavy bags to Central Middle School late Thursday afternoon/early evening, when they have access to the school.  A couple of heavy lifters who had access to a vehicle would be perfect appreciated for that piece.
On Friday, they are sorting and setting up at Central, and selling is on Saturday from 9 am-1 pm.  Most of the clothes are women’s clothes, and there is a huge amount of party clothes — long and short.  Looking for help setting up a party dress space with lots of room for girls to try on clothes — it could be our Party Room.  If we could find 4 outgoing girls to help out for a couple of hours on Friday afternoon and 5 hours on Saturday, that would be wonderful.  Contact Valerie Murray at info@breakfast2music.com

If you would like to volunteer at the Victoria Highland Games, please see this link for all the options.
