Women’s College Showcase, taking place on March 13th at 3:30 pm PT / 6:30 pm ET. During the session, representatives from three prestigious women’s colleges—Wellesley College, Barnard College, and Smith College—will join us to share insights and answer questions from students.  Please use the registration link if you are interested.

UVic would like to invite your students to a special information session for the Island Medical Program, which delivers UBC’s Doctor of Medicine program at the University of Victoria. The event will be co-hosted by Dr. Shahin Shirzad, our Assistant Dean of Admissions; current medical students; and our admissions coordinator. Our co-hosts will share details about our program and its admissions process, what it takes to become a doctor, and what it’s like being in medical school.  This info session will be presented at the University of Victoria, but it will be simultaneously broadcast on Zoom for those who cannot attend in-person.

Future in Justice Springboard Friday, April 11th from 9 am to 3:30 pm at the Victoria Courthouse – Are you interested in a future in Law?   Female-identifying Indigenous and BIPOC students in Grades 11 & 12 can attend this one-day free workshop and networking event open to young women who are interested in pursuing a career in justice.  For many young people, a career in justice may feel out of their reach. This event is focused on helping young women find inspiration from diverse women who are successful legal/justice sector professionals. The goal of this program is to show that there is a place for everyone in the legal profession.

– Network with justice sector professionals
– Lunch with justice system, legal professionals
– Connect with fellow aspiring young women pursuing justice careers

Graphic Design Summer Program Grade 10 or 11 students (up to 18 spots available)
SD61 and Pacific Design Academy (PDA) are working in partnership to deliver a program providing a blend of classroom-based instruction, software training, skill development, and work experience (if possible). The program will provide students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding within the graphic design industry, exploring conceptual thinking, typography, and design fundamentals. Students will also become familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.  Upon successful completion, students will receive 4 high school credits: Graphic Production 12
Classroom and community-based Instruction will be taught at Pacific Design Academy, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm from July 2, 2025, to July 29th, 2025.  The applications are due by April 18th.  See Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre for more information and an application if you are interested.

Volunteering Opportunities

ReStore is looking for volunteers.   Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Victoria at our ReStores<https://www.habitatvictoria.com/volunteer>.   We welcome student volunteers looking to add to their resume – either to complete their CLC and CLE hours or to gather work experience.  Our ReStores are open 7 days per week, with current weekend opportunities at both stores.  Student volunteer shifts are 2-4 hours and we can be very flexible for the most part.    We do ask that students commit to their full 30 hours with us, on the job training is provided, and anyone under 19 years must have parent/guardian permission.  16+ only.   For more information and to apply please go to the Career Centre website. https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/job–volunteer

Victoria Artistic Swimming is hosting the National Qualifiers from March 16 to 23, 2025, at Saanich Commonwealth Place.   They are hoping some Grade 12 students will sign up to earn their volunteer hours for graduation.  A variety of roles are available—field of play, hospitality, transportation, and more—with shifts ranging from 2 to 6 hours (no experience needed).  It’s a great way to be part of a national event! The TD Family Sport and Recreation Festival hosted by PISE and the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame will be happening at PISE on Saturday, May 3rd from 11 am – 3:00 pm. This is a FREE event for the community!  The event will take place at PISE at Camosun College Interurban Campus 4371 Interurban Rd.  It is a chance for kids to be introduced to new opportunities at the club and community level. This event is all about connecting families through sports and physical activity. It is the only festival of its kind in our region and also offers many activity options for children with disabilities. With more than 30 activities, including a variety of sports, outdoor activities, and obstacle courses, as well as food and beverage vendors, there will be opportunities for children and families of all sizes to interact with sports organizations and participate in a variety of events. This year, we are looking forward to welcoming around 2,000 participants, primarily children and their parents and grandparents, to the festival.  They are seeking student volunteers who are interested in helping at the festival.  Interested volunteers can fill out the Google form here.  https://bit.ly/4hgnBIe

Pedalheads is hiring and looking for volunteers over spring break.  To qualify as a Bike Instructor, students need to be at a minimum 16 years old by their first day of work.
