Grade 10 students with last names G to L will be writing their Numeracy 10 Assessment in the Cafeteria at 9:00 this morning. Grade 10 students with last names M to P will be writing their Numeracy 10 Assessment at 12:30 TODAY in the Cafeteria.

Grade 12 students who want to take a guest to the dinner dance in May can now pick up a guest form in the Office. The forms are due back to the Office by noon on April 25th.

All Grade 9, 10, and 11 French Immersion students who did not get a field trip form for the French forum at UVic on May 1: Please pick up a field trip form from Mme Garraway or Mme Weber. Thank you

A Sailor For The Day NAVY Experience for grades 11 & 12’s on April 29, 2025, from 9 am – 3:30 pm.  Accepted students will experience a day at sea and learn about life at sea in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), including a tour of the ship, and demonstrations of shipboard activities and they will learn about RCN occupations. Students will be expected to dress for the weather, with comfortable shoes with good treads. They can expect to spend time outside, and students will be given the potential to participate in active activities, with their safety in mind, (weather, sea state, ship location dependent).  Pick up an application and release form in the Career Centre from Ms. Giesbrecht

UBC Summer Science Program is back for summer 2025!  The program is a one-week camp for Indigenous students in grades 8-11 held on campus in Vancouver. Graphic Design Summer Program Grade 10 or 11 students (up to 18 spots available)
SD61 and Pacific Design Academy (PDA) are working in partnership to deliver a program providing a blend of classroom-based instruction, software training, skill development, and work experience (if possible). The program will provide students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding within the graphic design industry, exploring conceptual thinking, typography, and design fundamentals. Students will also become familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.  Upon successful completion, students will receive 4 high school credits: Graphic Production 12
Classroom and community-based Instruction will be taught at Pacific Design Academy, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm from July 2, 2025, to July 29th, 2025.  The applications are due by April 18th.  See Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre for more information and an application if you are interested.

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteers Needed for the Career Fair on April 24thThere are two shifts, one is from 7:45-9:30 am and the other is from 2:00-3:30pm.  The morning shift will have students helping the exhibitors set up their booth and the afternoon will be taking everything down. Childminding volunteer opportunity at Sundance Elementary School on April 28th from 6:30 to 8:00pm.  Students will monitor and keep kids busy while their parents are at an educational event on site.  See Ms. Giesbrecht if you are interested in this opportunity.  You will also receive volunteer hours towards grad for taking part in this.

Quadra Village Day is an exciting, annual community-building celebration of our neighbourhood on May 10th from 10 am to 2 pm and it is a 100% free, family-friendly event! There will be kid’s activities, live entertainment, inflatables, a dunk tank, community booths, and so much more. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist with various tasks including event setup, food serving, children’s activities, and more. ReStore is looking for volunteers.   Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Victoria at our ReStores<https://www.habitatvictoria.com/volunteer>.   We welcome student volunteers looking to add to their resume – either to complete their CLC and CLE hours or to gather work experience.  Our ReStores are open 7 days per week, with current weekend opportunities at both stores.  Student volunteer shifts are 2-4 hours and we can be very flexible for the most part.    We do ask that students commit to their full 30 hours with us, on-the-job training is provided, and anyone under 19 years must have parent/guardian permission.  16+ only.   For more information and to apply please go to the Career Centre website. https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/job–volunteer

The TD Family Sport and Recreation Festival hosted by PISE and the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame will be happening at PISE on Saturday, May 3rd from 11 am – 3:00 pm. This is a FREE event for the community!  The event will take place at PISE at Camosun College Interurban Campus 4371 Interurban Rd.  It is a chance for kids to be introduced to new opportunities at the club and community level. This event is all about connecting families through sports and physical activity. It is the only festival of its kind in our region and also offers many activity options for children with disabilities. With more than 30 activities, including a variety of sports, outdoor activities, and obstacle courses, as well as food and beverage vendors, there will be opportunities for children and families of all sizes to interact with sports organizations and participate in a variety of events. This year, we are looking forward to welcoming around 2,000 participants, primarily children and their parents and grandparents, to the festival.  They are seeking student volunteers who are interested in helping at the festival.  Interested volunteers can fill out the Google form here.  https://bit.ly/4hgnBIe
