SUMMER SCHOOL – 2016 Summer School  registration forms and Continuing Education Summer Registrations forms can be picked up in the office starting today.

BOOK DRIVE – this week in support of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Drop off your gently used books to the boxes provided around the school.

C4C 2016 – “Together. We Can. Make A Difference” – STUDENTS & STAFF. C4C 2016 starts now. There will be a meeting for all people interested in having an active role in the leadership core for the 2016 C4C Campaign tomorrow- Wednesday @ Lunch in Room 300.  Please spread the word and tell your friends.

 C4C VOLUNTEERS – Sunday May 29 there will be a Spring Kids Fun Fair at Willows Beach in support of C4C. We need a number of volunteers to help out with the running stations, baking, selling food, set up & take down. See Ms. Kinnear in room 313 anytime to sign-up for this fun and rewarding event.

LEADERSHIP STUDENTS – There will be a meeting for the Grade 8 Orientation tomorrow May 4 in room 300 at lunch. All Leadership Students welcome!

OAK BAY FILM & TELEVISION –  will be holding a short film festival on Friday, June 3rd during focus.  We are opening the festival to entries from all Oak Bay students.  Entries must be submitted to Mr. Laird by Monday, May 30th and be no longer than 5 minutes.  See Mr. Laird in 151 for details.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP – Did you know more than 400,000 children die of zinc deficiency.  An estimated 17.3% of the global population is at risk of inadequate zinc intake.Oak Bay Community Leadership is holding a “Zinc Saves” Battery drive from May 2nd. to May 20th  donation boxes will be located in the cafeteria and outside the Library.

 COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP -reminder to keep raising money this week. Community Leadership is challenging all Advisories to raise money for the SPCA.  The Advisory  with the most money by  next May 9th  will win a Pizza Lunch for their Advisory.  Advisory Teachers,  your fundraising envelopes are in your mail drawer,  in the office, send a runner to pick them up today to start collecting!

CAREER CENTRE  –Grade 12 students who are heading to UVic next fall are reminded that there is a UVIC REGISTRATION 101 session in the Cafeteria during Focus block this Friday May 6th.  There is no need to sign up for this.  Please just show up and you will receive helpful information regarding registration and choosing courses.

* Job Opportunity  –There is a  job opportunity starting this summer for a couple of gr. 12 students looking for work beyond this summer.  You will need to have your driver’s license.  The job would be learning how to use excavation equipment, pipe laying, reading plans, etc.   Starting wage is $15 an hour and would be full time.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you are interested in one of these positions.

*SUMMER JOB – An Oak Bay Alumni is looking for someone to help him with his garden.  This will be a paid position and continue through the summer.  You will be expected to cut the grass, weed and generally clean up the yard.  If you are interested please see Mrs. Giesbrecht for information on how you can apply

* SD61 and Pacific Design Academy-  along with a local designer have arranged for 14 students to take part in a one day exploration of potential career pathways within the areas of, interior design, graphic design, film, application development and fashion design.  The event is for grade 10, 11, and 12 students from our district.  It will take place at Pacific Design Academy on Monday May 16 from 9am – 3pm.  Applications are due by Wednesday May 11th.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you are interested.

 *The University of Toronto will be hosting and information evening in Victoria this Thursday May 5th from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm.  The session will take place at St. Michael’s University School in the Copeland Lecture Theatre, 3400 Richmond Rd.  Doors open at 6:30 pm for registration.  For more information and to register early visit  www.discover.utoronto.ca/infoevent

*Saanich Summer Leadership Programs – Youth Summer Internship Program supports 16 – 18 yrs.  in building employment readiness skills through month long mentored placements in summer camps and recreation centres.  For more information go to www.saanich.ca/youth   Send in your resume to loryn.anderson@saanich.ca  Successful completion of the program earns you a $500 honoraruim.

GRAD DINNER DANCE MOVIE – Mr. Carmichael needs photos/videos to make the Grad Dinner-Dance movie ASAP. It takes many hours to make and he needs to get started now.
