Friendly reminder, all students should be wearing a mask on school grounds except when eating. When you are finished eating your mask needs to go back on. You should maintain physical distancing at lunch of 6 feet, even when wearing your mask.

Last two days to donate to this year’s Cops for Cancer campaign.  “Drop it in the Bucket” at all entry doors Thursday and Friday.  Let’s send more children to Camp Goodtimes!

**NEW TIME!!  Are you considering a business school after high school?  A Bachelor of Commerce degree?  UVic Gustavson School of Business will be hosting a Zoom meeting on Wednesday Sept. 30 at 3:15pm.  If you are interested in taking part please email Ms. Giesbrecht at sgiesbrecht@sd61.bc.ca to receive the Zoom link.

There will be a limited amount of Oak Bay High masks for sale as part of the C4C campaign. They will be $15 and available at the front of school, at the start of lunch on Thursday. We will also be taking pre-orders at that time. You can also pre-pay through school cash online. If you pre-purchased a mask through online payment, please see Mr. Zolbrod in room 202 to pick up your mask.

Do you want to join the tennis club?  All skill levels welcome.  This a great place to have fun, make connections grow your skills.  We will play one morning a week before school.  We are still waiting for court times.

Read this form and complete the needed paperwork.
Bring 5 Dollars to first meeting.  (This helps us buy tennis balls)
Listen to announcement/ read google classroom notifications to come to the mandatory first meeting in big Gym

 Are you or is your child needing more support in their courses?  Do you just need a quiet space to get some work done?  Did you miss a test or other learning due to an absence?  Do you need to re-write a test?
Any Oak Bay High student has the following options:

  • On the afternoons that you do not have a C block class, as space permits, students are encouraged and welcomed to work in the library.  Please check in with the librarian or library clerk upon arrival.
  • Every Wednesday afternoon for term 1 (the first half of quarter 1), students can book time with their teacher(s) to receive support.  Students should discuss this with their classroom teacher.  The library is also open during this time.
  • Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, there are staff in the library ready to support students with their learning and/or supervise a test/retest that has been pre-arranged with their classroom teacher.  To reserve a seat during one of these days, please talk to your classroom teacher or email Ms Bender (sabender@sd61.bc.ca).  Drop ins are also welcome as long as there is space for all students and staff to remain 6-feet apart with masks on.

Mrs. Gillespie is challenging the staff to match her and donate $100 to Cops 4 Cancer.  Your name will go in to a draw for a prize and if 30 donate, she will dye her hair green.

Education USA  Canada Ivy Plus Student Sessions
These student sessions will include very brief introductions from the schools in attendance (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Yale), a discussion around the liberal arts, residential life, admissions, and financial aid, as well as the impact of COVID-19 on the admissions process this year, plus ample time for questions submitted by the audience either prior or during the event. There are three options, all geared towards Canadian students!

 SAVE THE DATE – UBC will be hosting a Zoom meeting on Wednesday 21 October from 10.00 am – 11.00 am.  This is for all students and any parents that would like to take part in an information session with time for questions at the end.  UBC will be sending out a registration link a few days before the event which will be in the daily announcements.  Please mark your calendar and look for the registration link closer to the date.

 Attention grade 11 and 12 students and parents.  The Canadian University Event registration is now live.  This year it will take place online and there will be several session you can register to attend.  Sept. 30th, Oct. 1st, 6th, 8th from 4pm-8pm and Saturday Oct. 3rd, 10am-2pm.  The information is now posted on the Oak Bay Career Centre website.   https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/whats-going-on

TEAC 105 – Explorations in Technology at Camosun  (grades 10-12) February 2021 start date.
Students interesting in exploring mechanical engineering, electronics, civil engineering and computer science will be introduced to career options and basic skills to help support their post-secondary decision making.  This course is on Friday afternoons for 13 weeks.  There is an application fee of $43.51 but students do not pay for the course.  Please contact Ms. Giesbrecht if you are interested in applying.

If you missed the AMP meeting yesterday,  no worries go see Mr. Spray in room 309 Wednesday afternoons for details.  If you do not have math until q2,3 or 4 then u will want to see me ASAP .
