Province wide -STUDENT VOTE CAMPAIGN – Our student vote is this  TODAY – Monday May 8, 2017 during advisory. Teachers please see Ms. Baker’s e-mail for your Advisory schedule Time and Area to vote.

BOYS RUGBY – please release the Jr. Boys and Sr. Barbs Rugby members today at 2:45 Block 5 for their games.

 ALL students in grades 9-11 can vote for next year’s student council presidents online today – check the student council website under quick links   The Poll closes today at 1pm.

EVENINGS OF DANCE – Starts tomorrow – Tue. May 9,  Wed. May 10,  Thurs. May 11.   7:00pm in the Theatre.   Tickets on sale in the Accounts office- before school, at lunch and after school.  Adults $10.   Students/Seniors $8.

 COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP – reminder  that it is Homelessness Awareness week! There will be Sock-drive throughout the week, with a box in the hall outside the Library.  If Advisory teachers could check their  email about showing the video in their Advisory today.

ALL NEXT YEAR GRADE 12 STUDENTS – who signed up for dual credit Psychology or Geography  next year must attend a mandatory meeting tomorrow-  Tuesday May 9th in the library during focus. 

ENGLISH 12 MOCK EXAM –The annual, school-wide English 12 mock exam is scheduled for next Wednesday afternoon, May 17.  All grade 12 classes that afternoon are cancelled as all grade 12 students (except those at Islands?) will be writing a mock English 12 provincial.

 Oak Bay High 4TH. ANNUAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL –    Oak Bay High Film & Television is happy to announce our 4th short film festival on Friday June 9, 2017.  You have time to work on your entries. They are open to all Oak Bay students.  Entries must be no longer than 7 minutes and can be any category/genre.  Entries must submitted by June 2.  See Mr. Laird for details.

 CAREER CENTRE- Fairmont Empress Career Fair – this Wednesday May 10th from 9am to 12pm  They are looking for grade 11 and 12 students for a number of positions available that are entry level. There is a lot of part time work this spring that could lead to full time work for the summer.  Please join us in our beautiful Crystal Ballroom and arrive at the porte-cochere entrance off Belleville Street. Please bring your resume, identification, and make sure to dress to Empress. Are you not able to attend in person? *Victoria Disability Resource Centre is looking for volunteers. Students will have the opportunity to work at their reception desk, do some data inputting, money handling and some filing.  These tasks offer a great deal of experience in customer service and general office duties.    Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht if you are interested.

*Operation Trackshoes –  A sports festival for citizens of BC who have a developmental disability.  Our primary need is for counsellors.  We are looking for approximately 250 volunteers to be Operation Trackshoes counsellors. An OT counsellor is assigned to one or more competitors and provides friendship and guidance in very much the same way as a camp counsellor would. We provide all the necessary training – no special skills are needed. We always have a competitor wait list so your participation will mean that at least one additional person will be able to come to OT.   http://www.trackshoes.ca/volunteers_needed.html

*Volunteer Opportunity:  Margaret Jenkins annual Spring Fair will be on Friday June 2 from 5-8 pm.  They are looking for volunteers to be available from approximately 4:30-8:30 to allow for organizing and clean up.  The Fair happens on their school field (corner of Foul Bay and Fairfield).  We are looking for help with various carnival games, cupcake walk, face painting, etc.   Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht to sign up.

*Volunteer Opportunity: The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada Walk this year will be right here in Oak Bay at Willows Beach from 12:30 to 4 pm. on May 28th.    Please go to the Career Centre to see what’s available and to sign up.

GRAD 2017 – All the information you and your grads need to know about Oak Bay High Grad 2017 is available on the school website.  To access this information from the website, select “Student Info” – “Oak Bay High School Grad 2017” and then click on the appropriate grad hat.  This year we will not be emailing information to parents and students individually.  The Grad 2017 website will be updated as more information is available.
