Grads – There will be an important grad assembly today at 1:30 in the theatre. We will be discussing the block party, grad dinner dance as well there is a guest speaker Mr. Kevin Brooks who will be speaking about road safety. Also grads please check outside the office for a list of those who have signed up to be bussed from the block party to the dinner dance. If you have not signed up you will be responsible for your own transportation from the block party to the dinner dance.

There will be a small group dance performance in the theatre during lunch TODAY. Everyone is welcome to come watch and donations for admission are encouraged.

This week is sometimes RAINBOW WEEK as recognition of protecting LGBTQ2A rights.  Many places in the world are still not safe, and more must be done.  Stand by for fun & useful events.

Students who placed in the top 3 for the Waterloo Math contest written in April, please see Mrs. Smith in Rm 308 to collect your medal and certificate.  This applies to Gr.9s, Gr.10s and 11s who wrote the contest.  Congratulations and well done this year, Oak Bay math students!!  If a teacher sponsor takes on organizing this contest at Oak Bay High, it will continue next year and beyond.  Thanks to Mrs. Smith for running it this year.

Leadership is collecting non-perishable food items outside the office.  We will be donating the food to The Shelbourne Community Kitchen. Please bring non perishable foods during the coming days to support the community.

Grad Social Night tickets are $10 per person, they are being sold by the Social Stairs every Monday & Wednesday at lunch until June 1st.

$1.00 freezies and chips sales for the Malawi Girls School every Wednesday at Lunch at the social stair case.

Parking Commissionaires will be patrolling Cranmore more often now, any vehicles parked blocking driveways and where it’s marked yellow will be ticketed.

Let’s Talk Trades – Camosun College – A Talk for Students from Experienced Woman in the Trades
May 24th at lunch – Please stop by the table outside the Career Centre – Julia, an Auto Mechanic and Karynn, a Welder will be here to share their stories, provide information and answer questions.

Shay Grover, Acadia University enrolment advisor will be outside the Career Centre on May 19th at lunch to share information about the Nova Scotia university opportunities available to you.

Attention Grade 11’s – Are you planning on a career in Health & Human Services?
Camosun is offering two Dual Credit classes focusing on health next September-December at the Interurban Campus.
ELC130 – Early Childhood Profession
Health 111 – Indigenous Peoples Health
These courses take place on Friday’s from 3:30pm to 6:20pm.
Have your tuition covered by your school district
Credits earned go directly toward your High School and Post-Secondary transcripts
Avoids the five-course crunch in your first year. Five can be a lot!

Indigenous people and women who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents are invited to participate in the fully-funded Bridge Watch Rating program. You will learn and enhance seamanship skills, earn nationally-recognized certifications, and embark upon an exciting, entry-level career in the Marine industry. Hear from experienced sailors, take field trips, practice hands-on techniques, and undertake a practicum at sea. Marine-based employers are excited to hire our graduates!

Science Rendezvous – Free Family Festival!
This year, the University of Victoria and Camosun College partner to bring Science Rendezvous to Victoria for the first time. Science Rendezvous is a national STEM outreach initiative with one of the largest one-day festivals promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math in Canada.
Head to UVic or Camosun Interurban (or both!) on May 7 from 10 am to 3 pm to learn side-by-side from real, world-renowned scientists, engineers, mathematicians and computer and software experts who live right here in Victoria. This free event is open to all ages.
Activities include:
Explore why Vancouver Island Rocks! Look at local geology, rocks as part of Earth’s rock cycle, and play fossil detective to identify real fossils.
Vibrabugs: Do a bit of soldering and then race your electronic bug through a maze.
Discover the science behind medical X-rays
Look at stars using the largest telescope on any Canadian university campus

Future Global Leaders – UBC
Your students aged 15 to 18 can get a head start on their academic goals with the UBC Future Global Leaders program. This pre-university program is a great way for your students to work out what their passions are while they’re still in high school, and prepare for success at university and beyond by studying a popular course without the stress of exams. Students can attend either online courses that last three weeks or join us on campus in Vancouver, for two-week courses (that combine morning classes, afternoon workshops, and fun social activities). Future Global Leaders runs on various dates in July and August.

 Volunteering Opportunities

Government House is looking for volunteers to help with some garden projects on Tuesday and /or Wednesday mornings if it fits in your schedule.   Please email Valerie Murray directly if you are interested.
