Any students who still need to take their ELL assessment please note that your date has been changed from this Wednesday, May 19th at 12:30pm to Wednesday, May 26th at 10:00am in the morning flex block.

The Province of BC announced the launch of the Foundry BC app, which offers young people aged 12 to 24 and their caregivers access to integrated health and wellness services. Please share with your school communities. Visit the Foundry Virtual BC web page to download the app or to access the web portal online.

Oak Bay grade 12 students attending UVic in the fall should join a  Zoom Information session on Course Registration  on May 27th from 11:35 – 12:20.  Register here by May 25thhttps://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/news–events  You will receive the zoom link by email the day before the session.

UNB (University of New Brunswick)  is hosting a Grade 11 presentation is next Thursday, May 20th at 7:30 pm ADT. During these 30 minute events, we will cover new terminology that pertains to post-secondary education, UNB’s programs, how students can prepare their application, and what their next steps will be in grade 12. Emily Carr University  Summer Institute for Teens will be facilitated online this year, making it easier for students to participate in this exciting pre-university program.
Summer Institute for Teens (SIT)
July 5-30, 2021
Ages: 16-18, or have completed Grade 10 by July 2021
Featuring small classes taught by professional, practicing artists and designers, the Summer Institute for Teens prepares students for the next step in their creative careers. Students spend four weeks engaged in intensive studio practice, where they develop a range of technical and creative skills, and create new work for their portfolios. Students have a choice of 10 online studios in a range of disciplines in the fields of visual arts, media and design. No previous experience in the subject area is required. By the end of the program, students will have broadened their understanding of art + design, created exciting new works and participated in an online exhibition with their peers.  For more information about the program, please visit our website. Students can currently benefit from a $400 discount if they register by May 31st!  We are hosting a virtual info session on Thursday, May 20th at 5 pm (PDT, GMT -7), where we will share all the details about our summer programs for youth. Students, parents and teachers interested in attending are invited to register on Eventbrite.

SOAR is a social enterprise based out of Toronto with a mission of fostering a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship in 21st-century learners through school and community programs. The SOAR Summer Innovation Camp is an interactive virtual program designed to immerse students entering Grades 7-12 in the world of entrepreneurship and innovation through project-based learning challenges. Camp participants will have the opportunity to engage in live workshops, take part in design challenges, learn from diverse entrepreneur guest speakers/mentors, and collaborate with like minded peers to create their own ventures. This year’s camp program will be offered in two 4-week sessions for students (July 5th-30th; August 3rd-27th). Further information about this year’s program is available at soaredu.ca/soar-summer-programs. Although there is a fee involved in the camp, we have financial assistance options to ensure greater equity for all interested in participating.

Previous Announcements

The Link Summer School Session this year is from June 28 – July 28.  It will be delivered in a “guided asynchronous” format.  This means that you can work on your own time.  Plan to dedicate 20 hours per week per course.  In person support will be offered twice a week by your teacher.  To see all the details please click the link for a Pdf.  https://thelink.sd61.bc.ca/school-spotlight/dl-summer-session/    Registration opened on May 10th at this link for a variety of grade 10, 11 and 12 classes.

Volunteering Opportunities

GTMANN is looking for carpentry construction workers from brand new worker workers to seasoned vet to staff our custom homes and multi-family projects.  Skill set is positive attitude, punctual, productive and reliable. We can train and mentor everything else.  Full-time $20.00-$35.00 per hour, benefits, 8 hours shifts Monday to Friday.

Mount St. Mary Hospital provides complex long term care to 200 residents in downtown Victoria.
The Social Visits Greeter adds to the quality of life of people who live at Mount St. Mary Hospital. In keeping with the COVID-19 Orders of the Provincial Health Officer the Social Greeter’s primary role is greeting and engaging with visitors and others entering the building to ensure their attendance at the site is essential and/or scheduled. Supports the safety of residents, by screening visitors, and communicating information and directions.
