Congratulations to Oak Bay skiers and boarders on their outstanding performance at the Provincials Championships at Sun Peaks from February 27th to March 1st. In the team results, Oak Bay earned medals in all four categories, including 2nd in boys skiing, 3rd in boys and girls combined skiing, as well as third in boys and girls combined snowboarding. This is Oak Bay’s best-ever overall team finish at the Provincials!

Athletes competed in both Giant Slalom and a Terrain event, with strong individual finishes in both. Monday’s race began with the skiers on the Giant Slalom (GS) course. Oak Bay girls had a very competitive field of 115 athletes. Oak Bay had a strong showing with 6 girls finishing in the top 60. Special shoutout to Valeria Pagliassotto (29th), Mya Johnston-Stewart (30th), and Bee Morrison (33rd)! On the boys side, Oak Bay had 3 in the top 20 in the province in a category with 134 competitors: congrats to Gavin Bayley (5th), Yoyo Deng (13th) and Jonathan Hart (16th)!

Tuesday was the snowboard GS day, and Oak Bay boarders took on the steep and fast course with tenacity. Of the 62 competitors, Oak Bay’s top performers were Dallas Batty (5th), Kylee Trumble (30th), and Michelle Mantel (32nd)! On the boys side, Oak Bay had strong finishes with Kiyoshi MacMillan in 10th, Alex Joiner in 15th, and Calum Parker in 31st!

The race series finished off with a fun day on the Terrain GS course, with big banks, burms and rollers. Both skiers and boarders had a single run race and Oak Bay always loves this event! The boys on the ski side came within tenths of a second from the podium, with Gavin Bayley and Yoyo Deng finishing 4th and 5th, respectively. Julian Gauld wasn’t far behind in 9th. On the girls’ side, Bee Morrison had a stellar run, finishing 18th. Dallas Batty was Oak Bay’s fastest girl boarder again today, finishing 22nd. On the boys’ side, Kiyoshi McMillan had our top spot again, finishing 17th.

More than just these awesome results, the entire Oak Bay team of athletes, coaches, and chaperones had a fun trip! All the little things – riding the bus, apres ski nachos, tubing, and much more – created memories that I know we will hold on to. We are proud to say that all our athletes acted responsibly and respectfully, which defines the culture of our team. Go, Oak Bay!
