Do you want to volunteer on a regular basis next year at Jubilee Hospital? The STEP UP VIHA Volunteer Program is looking for student to apply to volunteer throughout the school year starting in Sept. 2020. The deadline to apply this year is May 31, 2020, and interviews will be held in June. Coast Capital is currently accepting applications for our Youth Intern Program.
The Coast Capital Youth Intern Program gives students entering Grade 11 and 12 in September 2020 a unique, paid work experience opportunity to work at a Coast Capital branch, and in the community. They will also participate in meaningful volunteer experiences, and participate in a top-notch training program. Youth Interns work full time during July and August, as well as every Saturday once they’re back in school. The Youth Intern Program is a one-year commitment, from July 1, 2020 to July 1, 2021. This year we will be hiring 12 students to represent the Mainland, and 8 students to represent Vancouver Island. We are accepting online applications until Friday, April 10th at 11:59pm*. To be eligible to apply, students must be:
Entering Grade 11 or 12 in September 2020
Must be available to work full-time during July and August
Must be able to work every Saturday during the school year

Canucks Autism Network is looking for volunteers.
Canucks Autism Network provides year-round sports and recreation programs for individuals with autism. Our volunteers work in a fun and fast-paced sports and recreation environment offering high levels of support to our participants (most programs offer 1-1 support). Volunteers do not need any prior experience to be part of our programs – a training as well as hands-on training during the program will be provided. We run a number of different sports and recreation programs, social and other programs in Victoria. Programs take place on weekday evenings and weekends and last for one to three hours, depending on the selected program. Volunteers would be asked to support a program, once per week, for one season. Alternatively, volunteers can join our substitute lists to step in and lend a hand when needed! Students interested in volunteering can visit www.canucksautism.ca/volunteer or send an email to volunteer@canucksautism.ca with any questions. Please note that volunteers must be 16 years or older.

The Victoria Electric Vehicle Club is looking for youth(s) with an interest in electric vehicles and environmental issues. Possible ways to be involved:
– Assist with ’Electric Avenue’ during the Oak Bay Car Show this August (EV owners will be there with their vehicles to provide patrons with info on their vehicle and experiences – students could be ambassadors and assist patrons with their questions and direct them to the appropriate EV owner)
– Help with the annual Plug-In Challenge Event in May, Canada’s FIRST all-electric car rally
– Interested students could also obtain all their needed volunteer hours with the club if they wished, by helping at monthly meetings, attending board meetings, and providing ideas to engage more youth to help create interest in and awareness of electric vehicles.
EV Club Board members are happy to arrange to present to a group of interested students at the school, or to the leadership class, and/or environmental club (or wherever you suggest is best). Just let us know what can work and when. Youth Ambassadors Program – The program with Canada is a 3-week leadership exchange program in the United States for teenagers ages 15-18 and adult mentors. The program runs from July 16 – August 3. See the website for more information and to apply. www.youthambassadorsprogram.org The application deadline is March 20th.
University of Alberta is hosting a Registration 101 workshop in Victoria on April 2, 2020. Students can learn how to navigate the BearTracks systems for course selections and create their first-year schedule. This is a free event. Students can register at uab.ca/reg101. (They’ll need to scroll down to Victoria under “Off-campus sessions.”)

Volunteering
Youth Volunteer | Youth 2020 Can
If you are between 15 and 29 you’re invited to join Youth 20/20 Can! Volunteers meet regularly to share ideas about projects, events, or activities that matter to them they want to lead and manage in community. Once youth have identified projects, the volunteers partner with community members to plan and host events, activities, or projects – everything from learning about food security issues, to creating murals, and hosting activities at festivals and conferences. Volunteers are supported by Youth Engagement Workers who help coordinate events and activities and meet with youth to make sure their needs are being met.
Benefit to Volunteer: Volunteers are invited to participate in 3 free training sessions over the course of the year on topics that are chosen by youth to help them build skills and learn.
Time Commitment: Participate in planning, volunteering, and/or training events for an average of 10 hours per month.

Environmental Volunteer | Greater Victoria Green Team
Join the Greater Victoria Green Team and help restore habitat throughout the Capital Regional District. We post upcoming volunteer activities on our Meet-up page (https://www.meetup.com/Greater-Victoria-Green-Team/). We have about 60 activities per year ranging from 3-5 hours long. The program is very flexible to join – you can sign up for as many activities as you would like! Activities range from removing invasive plants, planting native vegetation, cleaning up the shoreline and helping out on local farms!

Multiple positions | The Mustard Seed
We have volunteer positions available to be filled throughout the entire organization, but currently the biggest need would be saving food at the Food Rescue Distribution Centre in Esquimalt.
Time Commitment: These positions are 9 am – noon shifts available Monday through Saturday.
Description Of Volunteer Position: This position handles cleaning and gleaning of produce and foodstuffs brought in from around Victoria. Through the work of these folks thousands of pounds of good fresh produce stays out of the landfills each week, providing food for thousands of local families and individuals.
Benefits To Volunteer: Besides helping thousands of folks and the environment, this position also develops many transferable interpersonal, management and leadership work skills. Come join the community serving community to help balance out social, economic and the gaps which exist locally.

Leisure Assistant Volunteer | Recreation Integration Victoria
Recreation Integration Victoria is looking for volunteers to help individuals with disabilities become more active and involved in their communities. Participate in recreational and leisure activities you enjoy while providing companionship for others. No experience required.
