REMINDER –Monday April 4th. Pro D day. ( New Curriculum Implementation Day) – No Classes in session.


BELLY BALL TOURNAMENT – April 5-7  at lunch -there will be a Belly-Ball Tournament in the big gym.  The Sigh-Up sheet is in the office.  $5. Per team (6-8 players)  Prize for the winners.

OAK BAY SAILING CLUB – sailors please get your registration forms in to Mr. Schippers Room 312 today. First Practice tomorrow Saturday 11:00 am at the Yacht club.

FOOD SAFE – Ms. Simpson will be teaching Food Safe this coming week April 4-8 for anyone who has a spare in blocks 1,2,4,5, 8. See Ms. Simpson in room 143 for the application form.

OPERA FANS – if you are interested in a chance to see “Midsummers Night Dream” at the Royal Theatre on Tuesday April 12th. at 7:00pm.  Tickets are only $15.00.  See Manjit in room 213 after school.

CAREER CENTRE – UVic is hosting an Assessment Conference tomorrow Saturday April 2nd.

“Everyone is welcome to attend ‘Assessment in a Time of Curriculum Change’, on April 2nd.  This is a conference for discussion and discovery about the role of assessment as the BC Curriculum, along with our thinking about Education, changes.

Join leaders from a variety of roles in Education on Southern Vancouver Island as they discuss their recent efforts to rethink assessment in their schools and classrooms. Hear students’ views on assessment during our student panel discussion, and lead your own conversations during an ‘Ed-Camp’ style forum held in the afternoon.     Register at  :

*Tourism and Leadership Exploration Program (TALE)  – An 8-week Summer Program with 4 weeks of instructional time in local parks and trails and 4 weeks in a  work experience placement.  The deadline to apply for the (TALE) program has been extended to April 15th.  Any interested students please see Mrs. Giesbrecht for an application.

* Vancouver International Universities Fair 2016 – May 7th at the Vancouver Convention Centre.  (A program of the National Association for College Admission Counselling)  Current grade 10 and 11 students along with their parents are invited to attend this conference on May 7th.  Students/parents must get themselves to the 9am ferry to ride the 10:35 Tsawwassen free NACAC bus to the event.  The bus will arrive in downtown Vancouver at approximately 11:30 am and will leave Vancouver at 3:30pm to ensure the group can catch the 5pm ferry back to Victoria.  Students are responsible to pay for their ferry ride there and back.  Any interested students need to confirm seats, complete a registration form and provide Mrs. Giesbrecht with a Certificate of Parental Authority form by April 14th.  You can pick up the form in Mrs. Giesbrecht’s office. *RE:  Dual Credit Geography and Dual Credit Psychology –All grade 11 students who requested either Dual Credit Geography or Dual Credit Psychology on their course selection sheets for grade 12 need to hand in their application forms to Mrs. Giesbrecht as soon as possible.  In order for us to put students in the class we must have these forms.  If you have lost your form and didn’t receive one please get one from Mrs. Giesbrecht in her office.  If you have any other questions please contact me at

*Volunteer Opportunities – There are several new volunteer opportunities posted in the Career Centre.  Volunteers needed for: Quadra Village Days on May 7th,  World Partnership Walk on May 29th at UVic, as well as seniors living opportunities at The Heights at Mount View, Marrion Village and Shannon Oaks.  Please drop by the Career Centre for more information.

*Grade 10 and 11 students are invited to attend the SD61 Career Fair on April 21st.  If you wish to sign up please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre to pick up your authorisation forms.

*There are two great summer work experiences available for students from the Greater Victoria School District.   1. Moksha Yoga is looking for students interested in doing 32 hours of work experience in either July or August.  You will need to commit to two 4 hour shifts per week for 4 weeks. Applicants must be 16 years of age. The studio is open all day, so shifts could include 10am – 2pm, 2-6pm or 6-10pm.                 2.    Belleville’s Premium Quality Watering Hole and Diner is offering a summer work experience opportunity for students interested in the Culinary and Hospitality Industry.  Applicants must be 15 years old and available for 4 to 6 hour day, evening and/or weekend shifts.    If you are interested in either of these opportunities please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre for an application.  More detailed information on these two work experiences can be found on the Career Centre website.
