February is Black History month, which was started in the US in 1926 to recognize and celebrate the many achievements and contributions of people of African and Caribbean descent.  The idea spread to Canada in the following decades, and over time all provinces and jurisdictions gradually adopted the practice. Of course, appreciation is not limited to one month, and we recognize that Canada had been greatly enriched by generations, whether escaped slaves from America or the most recent arrivals.  If you want to learn more there is a display board on the Second floor open area, and soon there will be a collection of resources in the Library.  These are only a small sampling of amazing historical and contemporary leaders, but we can show our appreciation for artists, scientists, political pioneers, writers and athletes each and every month.

Grade 11 or 12 students interested in Plumbing, Sprinkler fitting or Steam/Pipefitting may want to consider the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 324 Youth Employment Program which begins this summer.  To apply see Ms. Giesbrecht for an application.
