Congratulations to the Sr. Boys Volleyball team for their strong finish at the BC Championships this week, at 7th place. Following a close loss to #4 Moscrop in the quarterfinals (19-25, 25-27, 24-26), the boys had little to give later that day in the consolation semi-final vs Mt. Baker of Cranbrook. They rebounded with a very convincing win vs rivals Argyle of North Vancouver: the grade 12s won the first set 25-23, the grade 11s and 10s almost won the second set 24-26, and the 12s came back on to dominate the third 15-5.
- Setter Diego Maffia was named a BC 2nd all-star.
Congratulations to the Senior Girl’s Volleyball Team who competed in the B.C. Championships this past week. The top 20 teams in AAAA in the province battled their way through a 3 day tournament in Penticton to make it through to the championship round. The girls made it through to the top 8 by beating #3 ranked Earl Marriot in 4 exciting sets. They met #4 ranked Lord Tweedsmuir in the quarter final and battled to 5 sets . . . but lost 15 – 12. They faced Handworth in the next round and won convincingly but then lost to Lord Byng to place 6th overall. The coaches are very proud of the team’s efforts and their many wins over the season. Best wishes to the two graduating players – Grace Denham and Ella Mickelberry, and also to Talia Hill who won best Libero for the B.C. Championships and to Ella for earning a 1st All Star Award.
The sock drive has been so successful that we’ve decided to extend it one more week until December 10th. Please think of those less fortunate and consider donating new warm socks to warm up someone’s holidays.
The annual ugly sweater grad breakfast is this THURSDAY during team planning. Be there or be square!
Leadership is putting in a grad/international student mixer at the Royals hockey game on Wednesday, December 12th. You can register in Mr. Zolbrod’s room (202). Tickets are free so sign up quick!
Might Oaks winner for the week is Matteas Donald-Hamblin in grade 12 for academic excellence and leadership skills.
Connect to Care is a student lead group whose mandate is to start conversations about crucial topics that youth are facing. We are asking for Advisory Teachers to give students some time to complete the following survey (bit.ly/connect2caresurvey). This survey is anonymous and we are NOT asking for any personal information that would lead to identifying individuals. Instead, Connect to Care is hoping to gather information about the issue in order to start the conversation in our school.

Blyth Academy is a private high school in Ontario currently with fourteen campuses. Each school is designed to be a boutique of 50-150 students and has an average class size of seven. Blyth Academy offers a comprehensive full-time program, as well as part-time, private, semi-private, summer school, and online classes. There will be an information session here in Victoria on Sunday December 9th from 2:00 pm to 3:00pm. Stayed tuned for the location.
Upcoming at UVic
Discover UVic will be held on December 3 from 6:30-9:00pm on campus. This event allows students to chat directly with each faculty they are interested in, in addition to admissions, awards, housing, co-op and career services and recruitment. The Victoria event will also offer a student panel and a special alumni guest speaker. Event registration is online. Students, parents and counsellors are welcome to attend.
For any student interested in Computer Science and STEM areas, there is another event they will find worthwhile. Offered in partnership with local youth-serving and STEM-focused community organizations including Rethink Thinking, Battlesnake, HackUVic, FIRST Robotics BC, UVic’s Let’s Talk Science, and Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair, this FREE event is an opportunity to learn more about some of the great programs available for youth interested in science and technology on Southern Vancouver Island.

Shoe Box is here! This year we are working with The Shoebox Project, they aim to help local single mothers. The donation criteria is different this year. We are mainly looking for small warm clothing like gloves or socks, hygiene items like floss or soaps. For more details check out http://www.shoeboxproject.com/ Donation drop off is in the office.
Cst Perry has set up a questions/concerns box at the table in the counsellor center. Please feel free to forward any questions/concerns to Cst Perry in this manner or email her at sperry@oakbaypolice.org . Starting in November Cst Perry will be posting her office time at OB High through the morning announcements. She encourages everyone to come by to see her about any questions they may have or just even to chat.
