Concession open today but the Cafeteria seating area is closed for English 12 Mock Provincial, starts at 12:30-3:30.

TRACK & FIELD –  Very  important meeting for all BC Championship track and field qualifiers in the big gym at lunch TODAY.   Check Mr. Fast’s website for the Team lineup and your event. This is a mandatory meeting that cannot be missed . Please speak to Mr. Sheffer directly if there is a problem.

OAK BAY TENNIS TEAM – Please excuse members of the Tennis team at 2:50 Block 7 today. TENNIS TEAM MEMBERS- please meet at the back parking lot near the gyms at 3:05 sharp

THIS FRIDAY MAY 27TH. – the SPED Dept. is inviting Staff and Students to GRAD SPOTLIGHT-SPECIAL EDUCATION in the theatre from 9:00 – 10:30 am.

OAK BAY TRACK AND FIELD NEWS –  An amazing week for Oak Bay Track and Field as we have now completed the Lower Island and Island Championships.   The Junior team captured its 28th Consecutive City championship. The Senior team won  its 24th City championship in a row. Over 100 athletes qualified for the city championships and 35 boy and girl athletes managed to capture a gold medal finish. An amazing total of 118 top 3 finishes were recorded by Oak Bay athletes a  great effort by everyone involved.  Joe Robertson highlighted  the championship with a new record in the boys Grade 9 3000 meter run. The boys grade nine,  Junior,  and Senior divisions managed to sweep all the relays at the city championships as well.

At the Island Championships this past Wednesday and Thursday the junior team recorded its 26th consecutive Victory and the senior team its 25th consecutive victory. An amazing pair of streaks by an amazing team.   23 different Oak Bay  athletes or teams were Island champions with 65 total top-three finishes in the meet as well. A special mention to the junior boys 4×400 relay team who raced to a new island record in their event as well as Nick Mickleberry who captured an exciting new high jump School record of 1.96 meters.  All the athletes now move on to the BC championships in the first week of June. congratulations to everyone.     See all the Island Results at  http://athletic.islandnet.com/spring/track-and-field/results/

PRIDE CLUB – this Thursday-May 26 at 5:30 there will be a movie night hosted by the Pride Club featuring the movie “ Pride”.  Entrance by donation or non-perishable food items. Concession stand open.

 INTERACT & AMNESTY & ENVIRO: this Friday, May 27th from 7pm to 9pm, Oak Bay Rotary-Interact (International Action), Amnesty International, and Environment Team will be holding a 2nd Annual Year-End Celebration Ceremony where club members will be sharing club experiences and accomplishments. The keynote speaker will be internationally acclaimed 18 year old inventor Ann Makosinski. Friends, family, neighbors, students, teachers, etc. are all welcome to attend. BIKE TO SCHOOL AND WORK WEEK – May 30 to June 5. Bike to school and have your name entered in a draw for prizes.

Cultural Connection Program:  We are getting ready for next year.   Are you interested in making new friends from all over the world? Then you should join the Cultural Connection Program! CAREER CENTRE  – *ONE WEEK WELDING CAMP  – Who: Students aged 12 – 15     When: July 4 – 8th, 2016; 9:00am – 3:30pm Where: Spectrum Community School, 957 West Burnside Road    What: A five-day welding introduction that covers safety, welding processes, and allows students to weld their very own projects.    This week-long camp is completely FREE (generously supported by the CWA Foundation). Breakfast and lunch are provided for all five days, in addition to a student/parent BBQ on the Friday!     Pick up an application package in the Career Centre if you are interested.  All applications will be due by Friday, June 10th, and are to be submitted to the Careers & Transitions Office at 556 Boleskine Rd. or scanned copies can be sent directly to Nicola Priestley at npriestley@sd61.bc.ca

*Volunteers Needed:      Event: EMJS (Margaret Jenkins) Spring Fair Fundraiser.  June 3, 5-8pm.    Jobs for students:  Can work in shifts and swap roles if interested.     – 3 x 1-hour shifts: 4:45-5:45; 5:45-6:45; 6:45-7:45. (possible other shift, 8pm-9pm, for 2 kids, if we do a movie)        – Could use up to 8 kids for each  shift:

SUMMER SCHOOL – 2016 Summer School  registration forms and Continuing Education Summer Registrations forms can be picked up in the office.

C4C VOLUNTEERS – Sunday May 29 there will be a Spring Kids Fun Fair at Willows Beach in support of C4C. We need a number of volunteers to help out with the running stations, baking, selling food, set up & take down. See Ms. Kinnear in room 313 anytime to sign-up for this fun and rewarding event.

OAK BAY FILM & TELEVISION –  will be holding a short film festival on Friday, June 3rd during focus.  We are opening the festival to entries from all Oak Bay students.  Entries must be submitted to Mr. Laird by Monday, May 30th and be no longer than 5 minutes.  See Mr. Laird in 151 for details.
