ANTI-HOMOPHOBIC WEEK –  today- May 18thBake-Sale at lunch in the Student Plaza hosted by the Pride club.  Donations go to homeless youth of Victoria.   Thursday-May 26 at 5:30 there will be a movie night hosted by the Pride Club featuring the movie “ Pride”.  Entrance by donation or non-perishable food items. Concession stand open.

Cultural Connection Program:  We are getting ready for next year.   Are you interested in making new friends from all over the world? Then you should join the Cultural Connection Program! INTERACT & AMNESTY & ENVIRO: On Friday, May 27th from 7pm to 9pm, Oak Bay Rotary-Interact (International Action), Amnesty International, and Environment Team will be holding a 2nd Annual Year-End Celebration Ceremony where club members will be sharing club experiences and accomplishments. The keynote speaker will be internationally acclaimed 18 year old inventor Ann Makosinski. Friends, family, neighbors, students, teachers, etc. are all welcome to attend.  CAREER CENTRE – Want the chance to see Tessa & Scott at Stars on Ice for free?       Volunteers needed for Lindt / Stars On Ice!   Skaters and their families & friends have a great opportunity to help out at the Victoria Stars On Ice show on May 21 at Save on Foods Memorial.  Volunteers receive free admission to the show and will be helping to distribute Lindt chocolates to people attending during intermission.    Great way to get Volunteer hours!   To participate you need to be 16 years of age and older.    Volunteers will need to arrive at 4:30pm.   Please email eventcsr@gmail.comHeader: “Victoria SOI”    In Email: Names, Emails, Phone Numbers, Ages

 *Reminder to all students who signed up to take a Dual Credit course next year that you need to hand in your Online Camosun College Confirmation to Mrs. Giesbrecht.

*Volunteers Needed:      Event: EMJS (Margaret Jenkins) Spring Fair Fundraiser.  June 3, 5-8pm.    Jobs for students:  Can work in shifts and swap roles if interested.     – 3 x 1-hour shifts: 4:45-5:45; 5:45-6:45; 6:45-7:45. (possible other shift, 8pm-9pm, for 2 kids, if we do a movie)        – Could use up to 8 kids for each  shift:

  1. Field Games supervision: monitor & referee play, reset equipment, encourage and assist younger kids. (2-3 kids)
  2. Cupcake walk: run the music, select & call out numbers; supervise behaviour & assist younger kids. (2 kids)
  3. Face Painting:  Supplies provided, just bring your creativity! (1-2 kids)
  4. Tattoo & prize tent:  apply tattoos & assist with “wheel of fortune” prize board.  (1-2 kids)     Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht if you would like to volunteer.

*Pedalheads Bike Camps is looking for students to work this summer teaching children how to ride bikes.  If you are interested in learning more please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre.

SUMMER SCHOOL – 2016 Summer School  registration forms and Continuing Education Summer Registrations forms can be picked up in the office.

C4C VOLUNTEERS – Sunday May 29 there will be a Spring Kids Fun Fair at Willows Beach in support of C4C. We need a number of volunteers to help out with the running stations, baking, selling food, set up & take down. See Ms. Kinnear in room 313 anytime to sign-up for this fun and rewarding event.

OAK BAY FILM & TELEVISION –  will be holding a short film festival on Friday, June 3rd during focus.  We are opening the festival to entries from all Oak Bay students.  Entries must be submitted to Mr. Laird by Monday, May 30th and be no longer than 5 minutes.  See Mr. Laird in 151 for details.
