C4C ASSEMBLY TOMORROW – listen for the announcement –we will assemble in the big gym starting around 9am(block 8) tomorrow for the Tour de Rock.

SCHOOL PHOTO ORDERS – Are due by the end of day this Friday Oct. 7th.  Hand them into the office.  RETAKES are Tuesday November 1st.

GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY – Girls Development Field Hockey Team has a game at UVIC today (water turf field) at 3:30, be there by 2:45. Teachers, Please allow the girls to leave early from class to catch the bus to UVIC.

THE NUT HUT – open today! Come on by the Nut Hut to get your hook ups on fresh OB Swag – Hoodies, Sweats, T’s, Gear Bags and much MUCH  MORE!! The Nut Hut is located in the Student Plaza Cafeteria  and will be open every Monday, Wednesday and Fridays during lunch hours.

THURSDAY – COPS FOR CANCER – TOUR DE ROCK ARRIVES at Oak Bay 9:20am-C4C 2016 – The riders are coming!! The riders are coming!! In the spirit of celebrating the final day of the C4C campaign we would like ALL of YOU who have a TOGETHER. WE CAN. MAKE A DIFFERENCE. t-shirt to wear yours at the assembly on Thursday morning. A handful of shirts are still available for purchase from Mrs. Carbery in the accounts office.  –  bring your cash to the C4C assembly this Thursday. There will be some big surprises and last chances to donate! Everyone from the community is welcome!

* C4C GRADE CHALLENGE – outside the Accounts  office are –  4 water jugs. One for each grade to fill up with $money for our Cops for Cancer campaign. Drop by and empty the change in your pockets  into your grade’s  jug ….. and win some awesome prizes!

MATH DEPT. –  meeting tomorrow, Thursday October 6th. room 309 (Spray) at lunch.

OUTDOOR PURSUITS CLUB – first meeting is today at Lunch in Room 311 (Horton)    Students will learn plant and animal identification, navigational tools, how to build a fire, hiking skills and much more.  The year will culminate with hiking the Juan de Fuca Trail in May.  Here is video from Stelly’s doing a similar thing that will hopefully pump the kids up and spur some interest. See Ms. Horton or Mr. Turner with questions.

 CAREER CENTRE – Lattitude Global Volunteering offers students a unique opportunity to learn while volunteering internationally.  If you would like to learn more about this program designed for students after they graduate please come to the Career Centre at lunch on October 11th.

*Southern Gulf Islands Fire / Rescue Cadet Camp – This 5 ½ day camp will take place from March 20th to 25th , 2017.  Accepted students will have an opportunity to learn the basic elements of Firefighting, Search and Rescue, Medical First Response and Rope Rescue.  There will be a strong emphasis on teamwork, physical fitness and community service.  Applications can be found on line at www.penderfire.org  or in the Career Centre.  Applicants must be 15 – 18 years of age.  Please mail your completed applications to Deputy Chief Mike Dine by October 31st.  Remember to have Mrs. Giesbrecht review your application before you mail it in so she can arrange for you to receive work experience credits for this week.

*Would you like to be a “Soldier for a Day” on November 5th?  This is a day event intended to give an interactive introduction to the various career opportunities available in the Canadian Armed Forces with a focus on the Army reserve.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you would like to apply.  They are accepting applications until the 28th of October.

*CHOOSE A CAREER THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE – Join the Faculty of Human & Social Development at UVic for an open house on Wednesday October 26th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in the Human & Social Development building, rooms A250, A264, A270 & Lobby.  Enjoy some pizza, popcorn, coffee, door prizes and information on Child & Youth Care, Nursing, Community Development Public Health & Social Policy, Health Information Sciences, Public Administration, Indigenous Governance, and Social Work.Oak Bay students are invited to attend a Vancouver Island College Event (30 American colleges/universities) at St. Michael’s University next Tuesday October 11th from 3:30 to 5:30 in the small gym.  Students can see a list of the colleges attending on a poster outside the Career Centre.  There is no need to register for this event

* PSAT – Attention grade 11 students interested in heading to a US university after high school.  You will have an opportunity to write the Practice SAT, (PSAT) on October 19th here at Oak Bay.  There is a $20.00 fee to write the exam and seating is limited.  Students will be offered a seat on a first come first served basis.  See Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you would like to sign-up

*Mark your calendar and register early.  BROWN, CORNELL, DARTMOUTH, HARVARD, PENN, PRINETON & STANFORD will be in town on Sunday October 16th.  If you plan to apply to one of these universities you may attend an information session at 7:00 pm at Glenlyon Norfolk School 801 Bank St.  register on line or call them.
