PEER COUNSELLING CHALLENGE – the results are in for the Peer Counselling challenge.  Thanks to all the Advisories who participated and congratulations to Advisory 5 (Mr. Kinnear)  who  had the most total participants.

 THIS WEEK – Oak Bay High School- Me to We Club is hosting a “Week of We” – March 6-10 – with a new cause each day. TODAY – Tuesday– Bake Sale at lunch.          Wednesday– Celebrating Influential Women. Thursday – We Walk for Water (come on over to the track at lunch to see a great race) Friday– Zinc Day. Did you know that just one AA battery has enough Zinc to save the lives of 6 children? Please bring in your old batteries to the collection boxes outside of the Library and in the Cafeteria all week.

 OAK BAY Oak Bay is very proud of our boys’ first-ever provincial ski team – Logan Rampton, Adam Whitaker, Marcus Forrester-Houggard, Benedikt Reiss, Tristan O’Brien and Rainier Koch.These skiers competed last week at the Provincial Championship held at Whistler.  They raced hard and fast against some amazing Olympic-bound skiers, giving them a run for their money.  The boys lucked out and had some serious powder days, and made memories to last a lifetime.

 GRAD 2017 – All the information you and your grads need to know about Oak Bay High Grad 2017 is available on the school website.  To access this information from the website, select “Student Info” – “Oak Bay High School Grad 2017” and then click on the appropriate grad hat.  This year we will not be emailing information to parents and students individually.  The Grad 2017 website will be updated as more information is available.

CAREER CENTRE – Games2u Victoria is hiring!  Games2u Victoria is a unique, interactive mobile activities company that supplies Video Game Theatres, high-tech Laser Tag, Bumper Balls, giant sized Hamster Balls, inflatables and more. It provides entertainment experiences to every age group.  They are looking for highly motivated, physically active, enthusiastic Game coaches to provide top quality customer service on site while supervising and facilitating all activities that we offer. Coast Capital Savings is currently accepting applications until Friday, March 31, 2017 at 4:00pm for the Youth Get It Intern program. This program gives Grade 11 and 12 students a unique work experience opportunity to work full time during July and August, as well as every Saturday when they’re back in school.  The Youth Get It Intern program is a one-year commitment, from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018. This year they will be hiring 8 students to represent Vancouver Island.  .   • Entering Grade 11 or 12 in September 2017
  • Live in Greater Victoria
  • Must be available to work full-time during the summer months
  • Must be able to work every Saturday during the school year
  • Must be able to attend monthly after school meetings

Only short-listed students that meet our pre-determined criteria will be invited to a mandatory Information Session on Saturday, April 22, 2017. This is an opportunity for the students to learn more about the Youth Get It Intern program and its commitment, ask questions, and a time for us to get to know them better.

Health Care Assistant – Part time education opportunity at Camosun College to become a Health Care Assistant is available for students going into grade 12 next year.  Classes start at the beginning of September and run Tues/Thurs evenings and Saturday’s from Sept-June.  If you are interested in this opportunity you will need to apply now.  See Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre.

*Camp Thunderbird is looking for volunteers who love working with children. Qualifications are: current Standard First Aid with CPR C, Bronze Cross and completion of grade 11. The volunteer provides leadership to a specific cabin, as well as camp wide groups of children and youth with the support of their counsellor mentor. Volunteers also support the Food Services, maintenance, and janitorial functions and are willing to help as needed to ensure that the Camp Thunderbird site is ready and able to accommodate all users.
