Any students interested in applying for a position on student Council – please pick up an application in the office today.

UVic’s Gustavson School of Business will be in the Career Centre at lunch on Sept. 27th to talk to students about their unique program.  If you are interested in entering into business at university after high school this is a great program to start you out on your journey of researching universities.

C4C will be selling lots of delicious homemade treats at lunch time this Thursday and Friday in the cafeteria. In addition, hot chocolate will be sold for $1 and OB masks for $10 at the front of the school on Thursday and Friday morning! So make sure to bring money this Thursday and Friday for the morning and afternoon! All money will go towards the C4C campaign!

Tennis Club:  We play every Wednesday Morning from 7:05 until 8:15.  5 steps to join the tennis club

The Canadian University Event will be virtual again this year. Students will have the opportunity to join in the virtual sessions with approximately 50 different Canadian Universities to learn about the programs and entrance requirements.  Registration is open now and the session take place as follows:

Orange Shirt Day is Coming.
If you like an orange shirt, order them here. Please order before September 25th. I will bring them to school on September 27th. You can pick them up in 309.  The cost is $25. (Please pay for them when you pick them up.) All monies go toward bringing awareness to residential school survivors.   Orange Shirt Day Slide Deck and a Message from Eddie Charlie. (Many people do not know this, but Eddie’s perseverance played a large role in making Sept.30th a federal holiday.   He is a remarkable human being.

Pender Island Firefighter Camp will take place March 21-26, 2022.  The applications are due into Ms. Giesbrecht by Sept 22nd.  If you are in grade 11 or 12 and interested, pick up an application in the Career Centre.  Go to the website for more information but NOTE: the deadlines are not correct.  The application is due on Sept 22nd no laterhttp://www.cadetcamp.ca/#home  If you apply using the application form on the website you must let Ms. Giesbrecht so the district can keep track of who has applied.
– The Medical Certificate of Fitness that needs to be filled in by a physician can be collected at a later time, at some point prior to interviews
– The $200 deposit can also been collected at a later date once applicants know they have been accepted.

Previous Announcements

The Practice SAT (PSAT) will take place on October 13th here at Oak Bay for any Grade 11 students interested in applying to university in the US.  When students sign up and pay the $35 exam fee to Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre they will be given helpful study materials.  Seats are limited and will be held on a first come first serve basis.

Rotary Youth Exchange Scholarships are possible by the generosity of Rotary Clubs around the world.  There is a long term exchange of 1 year and and short term exchange over the summer.
They are optimistic that the 2022 to 2023 Rotary Youth Exchange Scholarship Program will happen.  The application and selection process for students has begun.  It is open to all who meet the following criteria
– Will be at least 16 years old by 30th September 2022 and not 18 years before 30th September 2022
– Curious to learn about and experience other cultures
– Wants to learn a new language
– Willing to step out of their comfort zone to experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
