Congratulations for a strong opening night for the Sr. Boys Volleyball Team, with 2-0 wins over Reynolds, Belmont, and SMUS last night.

Get your papers out and your pens ready… the annual School Wide Write will take place in all English Classes next Monday and Tuesday. This year’s topic is: LESSON LEARNED.

Any girls interested in trying out for Sr. Girls Basketball this year there is a very quick meeting in Room 300 at the start of lunch TODAY.  If you can’t make it, please see Mr. Kinnear before hand.

There will be an information session on the Rotary Exchange in room 209 on Friday at lunch.

Grade 12’s who are looking to apply for the major scholarship awards this year (Loran Schulich, etc), please meet with Mr. Alexander this Friday after school in the Career Center for an info session.

Anyone that missed getting SWIM TEAM forms last week can get them in the office.

2018 Imagining Possibilities Conference, a free, day long conference for one hundred young women between the ages of 15 and 24, who are wondering ‘what’s next’. Imagining Possibilities is about providing these girls with access to role models, career information and tools needed to find their way forward. This year’s conference will be held November 1 from 9:00 to 2:30, at the Chiefs’ and Petty Officers’ Mess, 1575 Lyall St, Esquimalt.  See Mrs. Giesbrecht for more information.

Come out and join Intramural Sports Club!  This is a recreational fun activity on Mondays and Wednesdays at LUNCH in the big gym.  Our first sport is Volleyball, so sign up as a team of 6 or an individual. (Teams minimum 3 girls).  Sign up at http://bit.ly/2Qvty87

Tennis Club meets on Wednesday mornings from 7:00am-8:00am.  Cost is $5 for your first time.  All skill levels welcome.

The Canadian University Event will be in our gym on Tuesday September 25th from 8:30 am to 11:30 am.  All Oak Bay students will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from 48 universities during this time.  Grade 12’s are invited to come to the gym during block “F” and grade 11 during block “G”.  All students are welcome to attend during Focus Block.  Please refer to the Quick Link “Canadian University Event” on our website to see the attending universities.

The University of Calgary will be in the Career Centre on Friday September 21st at lunch.

Grade 11 students interested in writing the Practice SAT here at Oak Bay on October 10th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm need to sign up as soon as possible.  There are limited exams which will be allotted on a first come first serve basis.  There is a $25 fee which must be paid in advance to reserve your seat. See Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre to sign up and receive study materials.

Rotary Youth Exchange Opportunity
Applications are now out for a Rotary Youth Exchange during the 2019/2020 academic year with opportunities worldwide.  Excellent preparation for life, education, employment and a lot of fun.  Pick up/drop off for applications will be in the Career Centre.   All applications are due Sept 25th.  See Mrs. Giesbrecht for more details.

The Centre for Sport & Exercise Education at Camosun College is having their monthly information session this Thursday, September 20th, from 6-7pm.  http://camosun.ca/learn/infosessions/sport-exercise/

Pacific Opera– Anyone interested in coming to “Beethoven’s Fidelio”, it is playing on Tuesday, October 9th at 7:00pm at the Royal Theatre.  Tickets are $15, if you are interested in going please see Manjit in room 213 after school.

Job Opportunities

A local family with three daughters ages 7, 8 and 9 is looking for some after school babysitting.  The babysitting course is an asset but not required, resumes are great but even a simple “about me” is fantastic too.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht if you are interested.

Volunteering

Moss Street Market is looking for volunteers.  Volunteers are not expected to participate every Saturday. We ask that they fill out the application though, so that they can be scheduled. At the moment, I am most in need for the Information Tent, Green Team, and Coffee Tent.  Here is a link to our website which has a page explaining the various volunteer positions (Volunteer Information Sheet). https://www.mossstreetmarket.com/?page_id=286  Please take the time to apply if you are interested. Volunteers are given a $5 Market Bucks coupon which can be spent on any vendor in the Market.  I also have a letter which I can send verifying the hours of participation a volunteer has contributed.
