Anyone missing canvassing supplies for Cops 4 Cancer please pick them up in the office at lunch.  We have tax receipt forms, name tags, and the online donation form.

Anyone interested in Best Buddies please join the My Oak Bay “Best Buddies” group and fill out the google form.  This applies for both new and returning members.

1st Amnesty International meeting will be Friday, September 20th in room 221 at Lunch.

Oak Bay swim team practice will be Friday at 2:45.

OpWall Mexico 2020– Explore the Mayan Jungle and dive off tropical beaches while helping in biological research with monkeys and sea turtles. Students in grades 10-12 who are interested, and those signed up, meet TODAY at lunch in room 227 with Mr. Ashurst.

The C4C carwash is this Saturday (21st) and we will need lots of volunteers!  The car wash will take place from 9:00am-4:00pm.  Please show up to the front parking lot.

Dance Troupe AUDITIONS are Friday morning @ 7a.m. in the Dance Studio!  ALL dancers are welcome!!  

Jr Girls Volleyball:
A players list is posted outside the PE offices.  Please look to see which team you are on and subscribe to team GREEN or team WHITE message board via the Oak Bay app.   This is important as this is how you will receive notification of practices, games, tournaments.

Opera Fans – Puccini’s “Il Trittico” is now playing at the Royal Theatre on Tuesday, October 15th at 7:00pm.  Tickets for students are $15.  See Ms. Manjit in room 213 at lunch or after school.

Previous Announcements

The Canadian University Event (CUE) will be held again this year at Oak Bay High School on Oct 1st from 8:30 to 11:30 am.  It is a tour of 45-50 universities who travel across Canada to meet with youth and give youth the opportunity to learn more about their school! The Universities will be set-up at tables in the big gym.  Students can ask questions and pick up school calendars to help them prepare for university decision making.  A list of the universities attending will be provided on their website as soon as it becomes available.  https://www.cuebcevents.ca/welcome/   Grade 11 and 12’s talk to your block “E” / “F” teacher about attending or come during Focus block.

Attention Grade 11 Students
The SAT exam is required to gain entrance into American universities.  A Practice SAT is scheduled to take place at Oak Bay on October 16th from  8:00am – 12:00pm.  Grade 11 students interested in writing the PSAT need to see Mrs. Giesbrecht to sign up, pay a fee of $25.00 and receive study materials.  Seating is limited and will be offered to students on a first come first serve basis.

Water Safety Instruction Courses – Are you interested in a great paying job?  Sign up with Saanich Common Wealth place for any of the following.  Option 2 does not show up in the Active Living Guide.  You need to call the rec center to get in these two classes.
Option 1: Complete WSI Course
This course covers all of the four modules in the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Program (Skills Assessment, Online, Teaching Experience and Classroom/Pool) in a 10 class format. The course dates are Saturdays Sept 21 – Nov 30 from 9:00 am to various end times. If you are successful in this course, you will leave with the full WSI Certification! This course is available for registration with barcode 25382 and costs $425.00+tax.
Option 2: WSI Step 1
Offered Thursday Sept 19 + 26 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. In this brief course, you will demonstrate your swimming, first aid, and emergency response skills. If your skills are completed through by your instructor trainer, you will be given access to the Online course and Teaching Experience Hours for you to do on your own schedule. Barcode 26303 cost $215.00
AND WSI Step 2 Offered in December. This course is to be completed once an individual has completed WSI Step 1, their Online course and their Teaching Experience hours. Please see the Saanich RecOnline website for dates and times. Barcode 26304 and cost is $200.00. 

The Rotary Clubs of Harbourside, Oak Bay and Victoria annually sponsor a long-term Rotary Youth Exchange Program. They are currently accepting applications for the 2020/2021 school year. The on-line applications are due Friday, September 27, 29019 and the screening of local applicants will start shortly after that.  More information on this amazing opportunity can be found at https://rye5020.org .
