Badminton Club will start on Friday after school in the Big Gym.  All are welcome.

There will be an organizing meeting on Friday, October 7th at lunchtime in the Library for all girls thinking about playing basketball this year at Oak Bay.  This is for all grades 9-12 and includes junior A and junior B and Senior teams.

The October Creative Writing Contest is now available. The challenge is to write a letter from the perspective of a famous literary or film antagonist/monster/villain. All entries must be received into the library by 3:30pm on Wed., October 26. The top three winners will receive a certificate and a $10 Starbucks gift card.

Victoria Rotary Clubs are getting ready for our Short Term and Long Term Youth Exchange Programs for the 2023/2024 year. Our deadline for accepting applications this  year is September 30, 2022.   If you wish to travel when you’re in 11th grade, you should apply in September of your 10th-grade year.

Please join us for a session with admissions officers representing each of the Ivy+ institutions.  This group includes Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University.

Admissions officers will address issues of particular concern to students applying from Canada.  Topics to be covered include highly selective holistic admissions, liberal arts institutions, the financial aid process, and changes in the application process for the coming cycle.  We’ll be welcoming questions from attendees during the program and look forward to an engaging program! Volunteering Opportunities
 

Heritage Acres and The Vancouver Island Model Engineers will be hosting “The Halloween Express” on October 21, from 4pm-8pm; Oct 22, from 4 pm-8pm Oct 23, from 2 pm to 6pm.  This Halloween event is very popular with about 1200 people attending each evening. It is geared to young families, we have lots of activities such as games, haunted house, graveyard, pumpkin carving and more along with many train rides for everyone!!  We would be excited to have any students who would like to volunteer for their school hours to join us. We ask that these students are mature and eager to work, fun, able to supervise Halloween activities, and get props ready prior to our event.  If they are interested and eager to do some fun work, please have them email me as soon as possible.  Our first fun and exciting activity will be “making scarecrows” on Sunday, sept 18 from 10:30-2:30.  My email is dianawigen@gmail.com to sign up and get more details to this event.

Monterey Recreation Activity Association would like to start up their iPad Club again for seniors.  They are looking for 4 to 5 students interested in volunteering to help seniors learn to improve their iPad skills.  The Club will be meeting on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 – 5PM.  Please see Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you are interested.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Office Manager, you will be our front-line ambassador of the Dealership responsible for greeting all incoming guests, visitors, and team members while providing an exceptional customer experience for our clients. This position also requires accounts payable processing.
Responsibilities:|
Our Receptionist is responsible for providing our customers with a welcoming first impression while completing the following duties:

  • Greeting customers visiting the showroom and inquiring as to the purpose of their visit.
  • Referring customers to the appropriate department, notifying the employee concerned that a customer is waiting and introducing customers to the sales consultants.
  • Welcoming and serving customers visiting the service department.
  • Helping customers with directions or any appropriate information they need while maintaining high company confidentiality and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain a tidy and stocked customer waiting lounge, kids play area, and coffee station.
  • Professionally answering phone calls and re-directing those calls to respective departments
  • Acquiring basic knowledge about the dealership, to be able to respond to inquiries for general information.
  • Taking payments from customers and issuing receipts along with other office duties as required or requested by management.
  • Stock in New & Used cars and assist sales department with vehicle inventory control.
  • Book in service appointments on X-time.
  • Distribute any incoming mail to appropriate personnel.
