Oak Bay students are invited to the Diversity in Marine Science: Inspiring Youth in Ocean Sustainability Conference at Mt. Doug. The conference will feature speakers on marine biology, ocean sustainability and student led activities.  This event will take place on November 20th from 9:30 am to 3 pm at Mount Douglas School. Lunch will be provided. Gwaii Engineering is an Indigenous Civil and Environmental Engineering firm who would like to offer day-long shadow opportunities to SD61 students. Previous Announcements

The Oak Bay Rowing team had an excellent and very eventfull weekend at the City Championships. Some of the highlights include our novice rowers placing 2nd in the eight, and Evan Fitzgerald placing 2nd in the single and our senior quad making the final. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate with us on Saturday, with high winds canceling some of stronger events. Congratulations to the rowing team on another fabulous season. 

Congratulations to the Oak Bay Cross Country team who competed at their provincial championships this weekend at Crescent Park in Surrey.  All four teams placed top ten in the province with many top 25 individual finishes. The junior girls placed 4th out of 91 teams, with Sara Campbell finishing in 16th overall, and the junior boys came in 9th out of 102 teams in BC with Elliot Brooke placing 27th overall.  Our senior girls team had a podium finish in 3rd place with Ava Lewis in 10th place, Maia Lawrence in 17th, Megan McCluskey in 41st, Kate Campbell in 44th, Izzy Joiner in 50th, Molly Andulajevic in 57th and Tori Fawkes in 67th. Our senior boys team had an amazing team score of 51 points that gave them the BC Championship title beating the second place team by 41 points.  Charli Mlotshwa finished 2nd overall in the senior boys race, Tyler Browne placed 3rd, Owen Lewis in 33rd, Cullen Oliphant in 40th, Will Powell in 51st, Jasper Balogh in 63rd, and Wes Beck in 99th.  Congratulations to all teams on their incredible performances at BCs!!

Adventure in Citizenship 2024 – May 25-29
In 1951, the Rotary Club of Ottawa established its annual “Adventure in Citizenship” Program in which over 150 senior high school students from across Canada spend four days in Ottawa experiencing tours, lectures, discussions and social events designed to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Canadian citizenship.  Go to the website for more information on how to take part.  https://rotaryottawa.com/page/welcome-to-the-rotary-adventure-in-citizenship-program  

A POST SECONDARY INSTITUTES BC FALL INFORMATION FAIR  –  NOV. 22ND @ REYNOLDS SECONDARY

Volunteering Opportunities

The Downtown Victoria Business Association is looking for students to volunteer at the 2023 Lights of Wonder, our annual downtown holiday season festival in Centennial Square.  The Lights of Wonder operates from December 1 to 31, 2023. We seek at least three volunteers on weekdays and at least four on the weekends. Hours are 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day.
Volunteer roles we are looking to fill:
– Ambassador: helping visitors take pictures and ensure they enjoy their time at the Lights of Wonder.
– Information Kiosk: answering general questions, lost & found, etc.
We want to provide a $25.00 downtown gift card to every student who participates as a gesture of our thanks.
