Lattitude Global Volunteering will be in the Career Centre at LUNCH TODAY.

There will be a meeting today at lunch in Room 304 for those students who signed up to help with the Career Connections Expo.

Barbs rugby needs to know if there is enough interest for a tour next spring break (2021). Please fill out the form this week (bit.ly/barbstour).

Quest University will be in the Career Centre at LUNCH on November 5th.

University of Alberta will be in the Career Centre at 3:10pm on November 5th.

SKI / SNOWBOARD TEAM MEETING:
We will be having our first meeting of the season this Wednesday, November 6th at LUNCH in the SMALL GYM.  The meeting will start 5 minutes after the lunch bell.

Dalhousie University will be in the Career Centre at 12:30pm on November 7th.

 Kids For A Cause is starting a sock drive! Please bring in your new socks to the collection bins by the office.  We are hoping to collect 500 pairs of socks

Register for the free Island Medical Program Information Session.
At this special evening information session, your students will learn about the MD undergraduate program, the IMP, the admissions process, what it takes to become a doctor, and what it’s like being in medical school. A Q&A period will follow the presentation.
This event will be co-hosted by Dr. Shahin Shirzad, Assistant Dean of Admissions, and current IMP medical students. The IMP admissions coordinator will also be on-hand to answer questions.
When: Thursday, November 14, 2019
Time: 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Where: Medical Sciences Building, Room 150, UVic (Campus map)
Everyone is welcome (including guardians and teachers), and admission is free. Due to limited seating, this event is ticketed. You can pick up your free ticket through our Facebook Event, the IMP events calendar, or directly on EventBright.

 Parent Night @ UVic
Parent Night is for the parents! Join us to hear the same information we provide to students when we visit local schools, including admission requirements for our programs, scholarships, and upcoming application deadlines. We’ll also offer some advice on helping your student transition successfully to life in university.  If you have any questions about the event, please contact the Vancouver Island Student Recruitment Officer, Stephanie Parker, at stephanieparker@uvic.ca.
Free parking is provided for all attendees (register to receive instructions).

Grade 10’s:
Be sure to complete the assignments posted on Google classroom for your Career Life Exploration credit.  Go to oakbaycareered.weebly.com, grade 10, and sign into Google classroom to access your assignments.

Any student wishing to write the Canadian Senior and Intermediate Math Contest on Nov. 20th, please let either Mr. Shiao or Mr. Carter know by the end of next week (Nov. 8) so the correct number of contests can be ordered and delivered by contest day.

Anyone who has a canvasing envelope from the C4C fundraiser must return it to the office.  We need ALL envelopes back, even ones that are empty.

Attention, young innovators! The Science Fair Foundation BC is looking to help you showcase your innovative solutions to industry, academia and investors at the 2020 Youth Innovation Showcase! Previous Announcements

 Fire Camp for teens (15-18 yrs.) from March 16 – 21, 2020.  This is a great opportunity for our students who are considering firefighting as a career.   Information and applications can be found at either www.metchosinfire.ca or www.sooke.ca .   ALL APPLICATION’S ARE DUE INTO MRS. GIESBRECHT BY 4:00 PM DECEMBER 18, 2019.  The physical exam does not need to be completed until the student is shortlisted but if you can get one easily and with no charge it would be best to get it done early.  The $200 fee does not have to be paid until the student has been offered a seat in the program.  There are 20 seats available and not all applications will receive interviews.

Volunteering

BY YOUTH FOR YOUTH – The Canadian Francophone Games will be held in Victoria this summer, July 14 -18, and they are looking for volunteers.  Go to their website: www.jeuxfc.ca and sign up to become a volunteer.  They are also looking to create a Youth Ambassador Program of 40 – 60 French immersion  and francophone schools in the province of BC.  These ambassadors will be involved in the planning and hosting of events.
