Previous Announcements

Congratulations to the Jr. Boys Volleyball Team for their first place result at the Island Championships this past weekend. The boys put together their most consistent effort of the season and performed very well.   The team defeated Carihi in the quarterfinals (2-0 in sets), and followed that up with a straight set victory over Claremont in the semi-finals. Oak Bay faced a tough Reynolds team in the final, and managed to come away with a spirited victory in the deciding third set. Well done and an excellent conclusion to the season.

Cst Perry has set up a questions/concerns box at the table in the counsellor center. Please feel free to forward any questions/concerns to Cst Perry in this manner or email her at sperry@oakbaypolice.org . Starting in November Cst Perry will be posting her office time at OB High through the morning announcements. She encourages everyone to come by to see her about any questions they may have or just even to chat.

A Soldier For A Day in BC – is a grade 10 to 12 interactive, one day seminar to introduce students and parents to the paid volunteer community service opportunities offered by your BC Army Reserve.  Saturday November 17 from 9:30am to 4:00 pm at LGen E. C. Ashton Armoury – 724 Vanalman Ave.

Applications for SHAD 2019 are officially open and due by November 19.
A quick refresher on SHAD:
High potential students spend July living at a university while engaging in hands-on learning in STEAM & Entrepreneurship.
SHAD looks for grade 10, 11 or 12 students who are: involved in their communities, creative & keen learners
A range of bursaries are available, ensuring the program is accessible to students with demonstrated financial need. Last year, we awarded over one million dollars in bursaries and scholarships. The cost of the program should not be the reason a student does not apply!  See Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you have any questions.

Grade 11 and 12’s are welcome to attend the university presentations in the Career Centre over the next couple of months.  Check the link below frequently for dates and times as they are subject to change.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q9G6IGT3LQ8SZhoi3560vMWAZqXAb_rmJGIwmJIb2io/edit?ts=5b96d1ec
