PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Oak Bay hosts the Sr. Boys Volleyball Island Championship Nov 17 and 18, with Oak Bay’s first match at 12:00 noon on Friday Nov 17th, in the main gym.

Ryerson University will be in the Career Centre at lunch on Thursday November 16th

The Jr. Boys Volleyball team had a very strong showing at this year’s Island Championships. The team went undefeated in pool play and did not drop a set. They suffered their only loss of the tournament in the semifinals where they were defeated by St. Andrews in a very close hard-fought match. The boys rebounded for a win in the bronze match by defeating Dover Bay for a 3rd place finish.

Congratulations on a successful season.

For the 9th time in 11 years, the Oak Bay Barbers Sr. Boys volleyball team won the Greater Victoria High School Championship, the Judy Bourne Memorial Cup.  The Cup pits the AA Lower Island Champion (Pacific Christian School) against the AAA Lower Island Champion (Oak Bay High) for the bragging rights in the city.  Oak Bay defeated PCS 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 22-23, 25-19) at Oak Bay High.

Judy Bourne was a long-time boys’ volleyball coach in Victoria, coaching elementary, junior high, and senior high school volleyball for many years, and was also a well-respected men’s volleyball coach.  She was an educator and First-Nations housing advocate, and was taken from us by cancer in the early 1990s.  The Judy Bourne Memorial Cup has been played for, in her memory, by senior high school boys since 1998.

Collette Cristante, Judy’s daughter, and Judy Cristante (a student in grade 12 at Oak Bay and Judy Bourne’s granddaughter), were on hand to present the Cup to the Oak Bay Barbers.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) will be putting on an “Experience the Canadian Armed Forces” event on Saturday, November 18th from 10 AM-3 PM at the Bay Street Armoury, 713 Bay Street, Victoria. Please note that if you wish to try our physical fitness test and are under the age of 18, you will need parent/guardian consent.
