Oak Bay High 4TH. ANNUAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL –   Oak Bay High Film & Television is happy to announce our 4th short film festival on June 9, 2017.  Entries are open to all Oak Bay students.  Entries must be no longer than 7 minutes and can be any category/genre.  Entries must submitted by June 2.  See Mr. Laird for details.

 GIRLS RUGBY – PROVINCIALS –  the girls defended their title from last year defeating Belmont 15-10 in the final.  If you see any of the rugby girls 7’s team, in the hallway or in class, please congratulate them!

 INTERACT CLUB – is hosting its 2nd  annual “Amazing Race” this Saturday April 29th downtown.  Teams of 2 sign-up in Mr. Bradshaw’s room or in the office.  All proceeds go the Malawi Girls school.  Great prizes for the first place team.

 CHOIR NEWS – Oak Bay Choir Wins the Performing Arts Festival .  Our choirs won top awards at last week’s festival.

Congratulations to the Chamber Choir for winning the Gardiner Shield for an “Outstanding performance by a secondary choir”, and the Victoria Choral Society Award – in honour of Dr. Lionel Adey for “Most Outstanding Choral Performance”.  We are  very excited that the Chamber Choir will also move on to the Provincial Festival.

Congratulations also to Jazz Wave for winning the Victoria Philharmonic Choir Award for the “Most Outstanding performance by a mixed-voice secondary public school choir”.  A special thanks to this ensemble for representing Oak Bay Choirs so well at the Highlights Concert.  They were AMAZING!

The Men’s Choir and the timetable choir Bella Voce will both be moving on to the Provincial festival.

CAREER CENTRE Would you like to volunteer on Saturdays this spring and over the summer?    James Bay Market is looking for volunteers to set up, tear down, work at the information kiosk and the coffee kiosk. This is a great way to earn your required volunteer hours for graduation.  See Mrs. Giesbrecht.

*Childminding – approximately two to four evenings a month.  Would prefer someone within walking distance of Oak Bay High or has their own transportation. $10 per hour – 2 children ages 5 and 6, bedtime approximately 8 o’clock.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht if you are interested.

*There are several job postings in the Career Centre right now.  Come by and check them out if you are looking for a job.

*Job Opportunity: The Old Spaghetti Factory is hiring.   Please apply in person at 703 Douglas St. with your resume and cover letter.  See the poster on the bulletin board outside the Career Centre for more details.

*The Oak Bay Tea Party Association is looking for volunteers on June 3rd and 4th.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you are interested.  These hours are acceptable for the Grad Transition 30 hour requirement.

GRAD 2017 – All the information you and your grads need to know about Oak Bay High Grad 2017 is available on the school website.  To access this information from the website, select “Student Info” – “Oak Bay High School Grad 2017” and then click on the appropriate grad hat.  This year we will not be emailing information to parents and students individually.  The Grad 2017 website will be updated as more information is available.
