MINI CUCUMBERS TODAY – send a runner to foods room 143 to collect your cucumbers for your Advisory

OAK BAY CHOIRS -had 3 groups win awards at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival this past week.  “Jazz a Latte” received the Gardiner Shield award for “outstanding performance by a Secondary Choir”.   MENS’ CHOIR won the Adjudicator’s Award for Male Voice Choir.  “Nitesco” received the Geraldine Harris “Joy of Singing” Shield for an “outstanding musical presentation by a youth or school choir”.  This last award is the top award presented at the festival.  All 3 of the groups above will be singing at  this week’s Choral Honours Concert.  It’s particularly exciting that both the MENS’ CHOIR and “Nitesco” will be moving along to the Provincial Competition.  Well done Oak Bay singers!

SENIOR GIRLS RUGBY – BIG CONGRATS – to the Oak Bay Senior Girls Rugby team for taking the Provincial Banner!

ANNUAL BOWKER CREEK RUBBER DUCK RACE – Environment Club is selling rubber ducks today at lunch in the Plaza,  for the Rubber duck race this Saturday April 23.  $3. per duck or 2 for $5.

BALLOON POP – Bring your Toonies tomorrow. The Youth Against Cancer Club is having their Balloon Pop in the Plaza. For two dollars you could win amazing prizes like a $25. gift card to Starbucks, plus mugs and bottles.

GRAD DINNER DANCE MOVIE – Mr. Carmichael needs photos/videos to make the Grad Dinner-Dance movie ASAP.  It takes many hours to make and he needs to get started now.

Oak Bay Leadership- EARTH WEEK this  week our project we will be running Earth Week from April 18th-22nd. On Tuesday April 19th we are doing “Turn it off Tuesday”. For this day, if possible we would like to request that all staff turn off their lights throughout the school in order to conserve power. Wednesday – Water coolers with flavoured water. FRIDAY –Bowker Creek clean-up during focus, meet at the outdoor classroom behind our future field.

EARTH WEEK BAKE SALE – bring your baked goods to the Student Plaza today at lunch.  All items $1.00.  All proceeds go the plant trees.

EPIC SHOWDOWN – Basketball game this Thursday at lunch.  Oak Bay Grads vs Teachers.  Don’t miss it!

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP -reminder to keep raising money this week. Community Leadership is challenging all Advisories to raise money for the SPCA.  The Advisory  with the most money by May 9th  will win a Pizza Lunch for their Advisory.  Advisory Teachers,  your fundraising envelopes are in your mail drawer,  in the office, send a runner to pick them up today to start collecting!

CAREER CENTRE – * Tomorrow Tuesday is the last day students can hand in parental authorization forms to Mrs. Giesbrecht for the SD61 Career Fair happening this Thursday April 21.

*Oaklands Community Association – Youth Leaders In Training 15-18 yrs.  Receive two weeks of in-depth training focusing on leadership skills and then take part in a mentored 4 week work placement at one of the various summer camps in Victoria.  Entry into this program will be determined by an informal interview.  Apply with a cover letter and resume to Ryan Lance by June 15th.  Attention: Ylit Program Coordinator at:  ylit.vic@gmail.com
