Congratulations to the Junior Boys Rugby team who beat Claremont 57-14 to advance to the City Final on Monday 4:00pm at SMUS.

The Barbs Rugby team is hosting St. Georges up at UVics Wallace field TODAY at 2:45.  Game day meeting at lunch in Mr. Atkinson’s room. 

For Chem 11 & 12 students:  Thompson River University Chemistry Competition Exam is on May 15th.  Chem 12 portion will be written during Block C & focus (1.5 hours) and the Chem 11  portion will be written during Block D (1 hour).  If you are interested, please talk to your chem teacher or if you are not presently in chemistry but would like to write the competition exam, please contact Ms. Berube in room 228.

For those students who are traveling to Pender Island, May 15th, there is a meeting in Ms. McCartney’s room(213), at lunch, TODAY.

Track & Field make up runs, throws and jumps during Focus TODAY. 

Evening of Dance tickets are now on sale in the office.  Performance will be May 14th -16th at 7:00pm in the Dave Dunnet Theatre.  Tickets are $8 for students/seniors & $10 for adults.

The Oak Bay Grad Lanyards have arrived and we will be handing out the pre-orders Thursday at lunch in the foyer.  If you are interested in buying one they will also be available for purchase for $6 which we will sell Tuesday and Thursday in the same location. 

Traffic Control (Flagperson Training) through Camosun College
Minimum Age is 16.
Course Description
Traffic Controllers are responsible for public and construction traffic safety. Learn about the Industrial Health and Safety regulations and safe positions and procedures in this Government approved training course. Includes both theory and practical field sessions with practical and written exams.
Upon successful completion, a three-year certificate will be issued by the BC Construction Safety Alliance. Camosun College Interurban Campus offers an Explorations in Technology (TEAC 105) course Fridays from 3:00pm to 6:00pm September to February for students (gr. 10-12) interested in exploring Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Civil Engineering and Computer Science. Students are responsible for paying the application fee $41.82 and there are no prerequisites.   If you are interested please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre for an application.  Don’t delay! Applications for the Youth Internship Program at Recreation Oak Bay (Ages 15-18yrs) are due Monday May 13th
The Youth Internship Program and Recreation Oak Bay (Ages 15-18yrs) is an excellent opportunity!
If you know youth that loved the summers at camp when they were a kid and always remember those great leaders and mentors ! Now is their chance to give back as a summer camp intern. This Youth Internship Program involves working in recreation with children, and gaining work experience over the summer. Successful applicants  have the opportunity to build leadership and employment readiness skills in a fun and supportive environment.|
There is a $500 honorarium per successful candidate who successfully complete the program.
Criteria to apply:

  • A resident or attend a school in the District of Oak Bay.
  • Between the age of 15-18years.
  • Willing to work 4 weeks in summer camps with children between the ages of 4-12year.
  • Consent to a criminal record check.
  • Attend 5 hours of Youth Internship orientation and Leadership Training: Time TBA.
  • Attend Oak Bay Summer Staff training on a Saturday and Sunday in June for two full days.
  • Interested applicants will be able to Email their cover letter and resume to:

Grade 11 & 12 students are welcome to apply to participate.

Workplace Alternative Trades Training
WATT is a Free Pre-Apprenticeship Electrical Training Program which includes 3 weeks of hands-on-electrical training, paid work experience, Apprenticeship sponsorship, ongoing mentorship and support, breakfast and lunch provided on classroom days and basic toolkit and Steel-Toe-Boots.   Students will earn several certificates, including Occupational First Aid Level 1, Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform, WHMIS 2015, and Construction Safety Training Systems 09.  Please email watt@wjets.ca for more information or call 250-418-0984.

Oak Bay Short Film Fest – The Oak Bay Annual Short Film Fest is on Friday, June 7 during Focus this year. We are welcoming short films under 5 minutes. Films should be submitted by Monday, June 3 to Mr. Laird.

Ocean Science Symposium – May 24th & 25th at UVic.  Two days of engaging and experimental educational activities focused on marine science and technology.  Please see Mr. Shrubsole for more information.

In partnership with several other school districts in southwestern British Columbia, secondary schools throughout the Greater Victoria School District are offering a fantastic opportunity for up to 40 female secondary students (ages 15 to 18) to participate in the Ocean Literacy & Leadership Academy/Camp for Young Women, taking place for a week this summer at the Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre on Hornby Island!

On Friday, May 17th Pro-D Day GNS is hosting an event with a non-for profit organization called Fast and Female for girls ages 8 to 18. Fast and Female Ambassadors are Olympians, World Champs, Elite and Varsity athletes and they will spend a morning at Glenlyon Norfolk School empowering and inspiring girls to stay active and healthy in sports throughout their teens. What is Fast and Female?  Event registration page here
