Graduation Literacy 10 and Numeracy 10 Assessment for the week of June 14th – June 18th
Students will be scheduled to write the Numeracy or Literacy 10 assessments if:
· They have a Math 10 or English 10 in Q4
· They have already taken Math 10 or English 10 this year and have yet to write the assessment.
· They are in grade 11 or 12 and have NOT written the Numeracy 10 assessment
· They are in grade 11 and have NOT written the Literacy 10 assessment
IMPORTANT NOTE: Current grade 12 students are REQUIRED to write the Numeracy 10 assessment in order to graduate. Current grade 11 students are REQUIRED to write the Literacy AND Numeracy 10 assessments in order to graduate.
A list of which students are scheduled to write the assessment including which assessments, the date, the time and the room that has been posted on the front office window and provided to all Grade 10 block H teachers. Students have been schedule to write the assessment during their part time morning block to ensure that they do not have to miss class time to write this assessment. If they need to change the date to write the assessment, students are asked to come to the office to make the request.
More about the assessments:
- Students should arrive at 8:45 AM to login and settle in.
- Students will have 3 hours to write this assessment.
- This assessment is completely electronic and a device will be provided to each student.
- Students should bring:
- o a water bottle, if desired,
- o 2 pencils,
- o 1 eraser,
- o Numeracy only – A scientific calculator (there is an electronic calculator if a student forgets)
No other materials are permitted into the assessment room including internet watches (ie apple watch).
Scrap paper will be made available for students who need it
Students have been scheduled into rooms where there is enough space to have 6 foot distance between students. Students will be required to wear a mask while writing the assessment. Please do complete the daily health check the morning of and IF you are not feeling well, STAY HOME. There will be future opportunities to write this assessment.
These assessments are scored on a proficiency scale out of 4 which means that students will NOT receive a percentage or letter grade, but instead will receive a 1, 2, 3 or 4. There are not any course credits associated with this exam; instead, transcripts will show RM (Requirements Met) and a score out of 4. Please check with the university or college that you are applying to determine the entrance standards regarding this assessment. If you need assistance with this, please see Ms. Giesbrecht in the Careers office or any of our counsellors at Oak Bay High. If a student determines that they would like or require a higher score after they have written the assessment, they will have the opportunity to re-write in future years. Results typically take about 2 months to be finalized and can be found by the student logging into their MyEd account.

The Link Summer School Session this year is from June 28 – July 28. It will be delivered in a “guided asynchronous” format. This means that you can work on your own time. Plan to dedicate 20 hours per week per course. In person support will be offered twice a week by your teacher. SOAR is a social enterprise based out of Toronto with a mission of fostering a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship in 21st-century learners through school and community programs. The SOAR Summer Innovation Camp is an interactive virtual program designed to immerse students entering Grades 7-12 in the world of entrepreneurship and innovation through project-based learning challenges. Camp participants will have the opportunity to engage in live workshops, take part in design challenges, learn from diverse entrepreneur guest speakers/mentors, and collaborate with like minded peers to create their own ventures. This year’s camp program will be offered in two 4-week sessions for students (July 5th-30th; August 3rd-27th). Although there is a fee involved in the camp, we have financial assistance options to ensure greater equity for all interested in participating.
Volunteer this summer at summer camps. Quadratic Sound offers STEM based camps for kids and is looking for grade 11 or 12 student volunteers who wish to gain experience working with children as well as work in a fun team-oriented environment. These STEM based camps involve Minecraft Modding, Science, Game Design, Lego Robotics and more. The Social Visits Greeter adds to the quality of life of people who live at Mount St. Mary Hospital.
