Community Leadership is running Spirit Week Jan 30th to Feb 2nd

The days are as follows:

  • January 30th – Tuesday: PJ day
  • January 31st – Wednesday: Twin day
  • February 1st – Thursday: Meme day
  • February 2nd – Friday: Green and White day 

On February 28, 2018, schools across Canada will be recognizing PINK SHIRT DAY, which symbolizes a stand against bullying. Please see the link for more information https://www.pinkshirtday.ca

In support of this, students, parents, teachers and staff have the opportunity to purchase a PINK SHIRT for just $6 and/or a BANDANA for $4. You can place your order online here or see Ms. Adams in the Accounts office. Orders must be placed by JANUARY 31, 2018.
T-shirts and Bandanas will be delivered to our school on or by February 27th and can be collected from the school office.

Are you interested in Graphic Design?

On Thursday, March 1st, explore the world of graphic design at Pacific Design Academy!

Who: Grade 10, 11 and 12 students (16 seats available)

When: March 1st 2018, 9:30am – 1:30pm

Where: Pacific Design Academy

Why: To explore the industry of graphic design through hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations, and discussions

with PDA instructors, students, and local professionals.

What: Accepted students will be expected to make their own way to Pacific Design Academy, need to bring a lunch, notepad and pen. The rest of the materials will be provided.

Deadline for applications is Feb 20th.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht if you are interested and would like an application.

When: Wednesday, February 7th 2018, 9:30am – 1:30pm

Students, It’s not too late to complete math faster. You can complete math during the year and during the summer through Oak Bay amp Program.  See Mr. Spray for details in 309.

Opera Tickets

Anyone interested in going to see “La Boheme” at the Royal Theatre, playing on February 13th at 7:00pm, please see Manjit for tickets after school in room 213.  Tickets are $15 each.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

The Butchart Gardens is beginning their seasonal process of recruiting and hiring for the 2018 season. They are having a Job Fair on February 20th at The Gardens from 6 until 8 pm in The Coffee Shop. Applications are available online. Butchart Gardens Application   We generally hire for five departments each summer season:

Food Services: The Gardens has several restaurants which require waitstaff, cashiers, buspersons, and counter-service persons.  We also have two kitchen facilities which produce a la carte, pastry and industrial production.

Visitor Services: Primarily an outdoor position, responsibilities include pedestrian and vehicle traffic control, grounds maintenance, collecting admissions, and all other services provided for our international and local visitors.

Custodial Services: These positions require work both indoors and outdoors.  Responsibilities include maintenance of administrative buildings, visitor and staff washroom facilities, and garbage collection.

Seed & Gift Store: These positions require work both behind-the-scenes and with our visitors.  Responsibilities include extensive merchandise knowledge, cash transactions in numerous currencies, unpacking, stocking and reconciling paperwork.

Gardening: Primarily outdoor positions, or work in our Plant Identification Centre.  Most positions require eight hour shifts of heavy to moderate labour and require good public relations skills.

These are seasonal positions providing 25-40 hours of work per week.  Shifts will vary and weekend and evening work is required.

The Victoria Symphony has a variety of volunteer positions available throughout the season and also annually for Victoria Symphony Splash.
