Team Planning – Wednesday, January 29th,  Block “A” starts at 9:25.

The University of Calgary will be in the Career Centre at lunch TODAY for anyone interested in learning more about the university or to follow with next steps if you’ve already applied.

There will be a kick-off meeting for the Girls Rugby Team TODAY in room 302 at lunch. If you are interested in playing girls rugby this year, make sure you are there and bring a friend!

All girls in grades 9 to 12 who are interested in trying out for Sr. Girls Soccer, there is a meeting in room 212 at lunch on Tuesday, January 28th.  If you cannot attend, please see Mrs. Baker.

The International Student yearbook photo will be taken on the Social Staircase at the start of Focus on January 30th. We would like ALL International Students there for the photo please!

Grade photos for the yearbook are happening the first week of February!  Please come to the following locations at the BEGINNING of FOCUS:
     Grade 9: Monday, February 3rd in front of the Big Gym
     Grade 10: Tuesday, February 4th on the Social Staircase
     Grade 11: Wednesday, February 5th in the front entrance
     Grade 12: Thursday, February 6th in the Grad area

Tennis Team Try Outs begin Feb 7th after school is 3 court bubble at 2pm.  The team is open to all skill levels.  If you like tennis, please come.

 Mathletes!  Contest time for grades 9 to 11 is fast approaching!!
If you are interested in writing one of the Pascal, Cayley or Fermat contests on Feb. 25th, do the following AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:
**Tell your Math teacher of your interest
**Bring in a loonie ($1) to help cover the cost of the contest
**Pick up an old contest (or two) to practice on and get practicing!!
Further details will be given as the contest date draws nearer.”

 SD61 and Viking Air are offering an Aviation Springboard on Friday February 14th.  Students will have the opportunity to explore the world of aviation at Viking Air through interactive and hands-on activities.  This takes place on a pro d day, so students will not miss any classes, but will be committing to this Springboard on their day off.  Applications are in the Career Centre and are due into Mrs. Giesbrecht as soon as possible.  Seating is limited so don’t delay.

 Are you a young woman interested in trades?  There will be a Women in Trades and Technology (WITT) event on Wednesday February 26th in partnership with Camosun College at the Interurban Campus.  Lunch and transportation will be provided to and from Camosun College Interurban Campus. Each student will take part in two trades and two technologies throughout the day.  Group 1 will explore Electrical, Carpentry, Computer Science, and Civil Engineering.  Group 2 will explore Sheet Metal, Automotive, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering.   Seats are limited so don’t delay.  Get your application in the Career Centre and hand it in to Mrs. Giesbrecht by February 18th.

Job Opportunities

Are you looking for work over the spring break?  St. Michaels is looking for Cultural Ambassadors to work with Japanese students during spring break.  You must be between 13 and 18 year of age, have an interest in Japanese culture, be able to reach out and make connections with students whose first language is not English. BY YOUTH FOR YOUTH – The Canadian Francophone Games will be held in Victoria this summer, July 14 -18, and they are looking for volunteers.  Go to their website: www.jeuxfc.ca and sign up to become a volunteer.  They are also looking to create a Youth Ambassador Program of 40 – 60 French immersion  and francophone schools in the province of BC.  These ambassadors will be involved in the planning and hosting of events.
