A huge thank you to Mr. Carter who organized the opportunity for our students to write these Math contests and a thank you to all of our Math teachers at Oak Bay who consistently do an amazing job of preparing our students for such Math contests.

Community Leadership is running Health Week Jan 22-26.

The days are as follows:

  • 22-Monday : Bike or Walk to School Day
  • 23-Tuesday: Attend Yoga in the Small Gym @ Lunch
  • 24-Wednesday:  Sample Healthy Recipes at the social stairs @ lunch
  • 25-Thursday: Drink lots of water for Hydration Day
  • 26-Friday: Show some Kindness on Pay it Forward Day

Bikes locked to fences will be ticketed starting TODAY. 

The junior boys rugby team and any other interested players will have a meeting in Mr. Atkinsons room (231) on Tuesday at lunch. 

T3!! Track Trip Toronto

Any interested grade 9’s and new students who want to do anything around Track and Field.

You might be interested in the Track Trip in the Spring of 2019 to Toronto.

There will be a meeting Tuesday at lunch in room 212 if you are interested. Any students who have already committed to the trip should also be there. Important info around fundraising and costs will be discussed. See Mr. Sheffer with any questions.

Senior Concert choir – rehearsal at lunch today – all men and women please!

STEM Fellowship UVic will be in the Career Centre at lunch on Wednesday January 24thSTEM Fellowship UVic is a club focused on inspiring young students to pursue post-secondary studies in sciences and engineering and showing them the gratification and benefit to society that can come from studying sciences.  They will present a brief, approximately 30 minute presentation for any students interested in what the sciences at post-secondary (and specifically UVic) are like, what they can benefit from studying them, and how to succeed in post-secondary in general. As STEM Fellowship has branches at several other universities across Canada, including the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto, we have an established network that could help many students find out about schools of their interest.

Starting today, Chess Club will be twice a week, Mondays and Wednesday at lunch in room 309.

Grade 12’s  – Mr. Alexander will be in the cafeteria all week for Focus to help with completing your Student Transcripts for university applications – come on by!

Senior girls soccer: Any girls interested in playing Senior Girls Soccer, we will have our first drop-in indoor session next Monday (January 22) in the big gym after school. Please see Miss McKinty if you can’t make it.

Evening of Dance Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online here or go and see Ms. Adams in the Accounts Office.  Students/Seniors $8.00, Adults $10.00.

PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

On February 28, 2018, schools across Canada will be recognizing PINK SHIRT DAY, which symbolizes a stand against bullying. Please see the link for more information https://www.pinkshirtday.ca

In support of this, students, parents, teachers and staff have the opportunity to purchase a PINK SHIRT for just $6 and/or a BANDANA for $4. You can place your order online here or see Ms. Adams in the Accounts office. Orders must be placed by JANUARY 31, 2018.
T-shirts and Bandanas will be delivered to our school on or by February 27th and can be collected from the school office.

Xavier Pelletier High School Internship Program (Grade 11 – School nominated) The High School Internship Program (HSIP) is an 8-week summer program that runs in July-August each summer at the BC Cancer Agency’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Center in Victoria. This program has been designed to offer students the opportunity to explore cancer research from the front lines, learning the latest techniques in the fight against cancer today and setting the ground for the future. Each student will be responsible for a research project, which they will develop and implement from start to finish with continual support from a designated supervisor and a team of research scientists. All Secondary schools on Vancouver Island are eligible to nominate (2) Grade 11 students. Students must take Biology 11 or 12 in grade 11 to be eligible. Oak Bay selects its 2 nominees in February. Interested students are asked to Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre for more information.

Students, It’s not too late to complete math faster. You can complete math during the year and during the summer through Oak Bay amp Program.  See Mr. Spray for details in 309.

Opera Tickets

Anyone interested in going to see “La Boheme” at the Royal Theatre, playing on February 13th at 7:00pm, please see Manjit for tickets after school in room 213.  Tickets are $15 each.

Volunteer Opportunity

At Victoria Hospital we provide opportunities for youth ages 16 and 17 to volunteer with other youth on either Saturday’s or Sunday’s. Junior volunteer’s help with water delivery, meal tray delivery, newspaper and lab deliveries, and library cart. Typically the Junior’s work in teams of 2-3 volunteers.
