A big congratulations to the Ski and Snowboard team for their first official race day up at Washington on Monday. The teams placed 1st overall, winning in all 4 categories. Way to go oak bay!

Oak Bay Tennis Info meeting: Wednesday, January 26th at lunch in room 309(Bring your lunch.)  Anyone interested in trying out is asked to attend. Beginners welcome.
Our first try-out practice will be Tuesday, February 1st at 7:55 until 8:50.  Practices this year will be a mix of Tuesday and Thursday Mornings at 7:55.  A calendar of practices will be included in goggle classroom. Please see the online announcement for the google classroom code and the mandatory google form.

MINI MED SCHOOL 2022 – Friday April 29th @ Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina
Are you a grades 10-12 student with a passion for science and health research?
At Mini Med School, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the latest medical research happening in BC
  • Explore the diverse careers available in science and medicine
  • Engage with world-class researchers and health professionals
  • Network with like-minded students from across Vancouver Island

There are seats held specifically for students who self-identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.

From the Math department:  The University of Waterloo Pascal, Cayley and Fermat Math Contests are still happening, on Wed. Feb.23rd from 10-11am in Rm 308 with Mrs. Smith.  18 students have already signed up to write this, but if you’d like to write this 60 min contest, please see Mrs. Smith in Rm 308 by Jan.21st since she needs to order the contests.  Cost is $2 which includes a full-sized chocolate bar!  Practice contests from past years are at:  https://www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/contests/past_contests.html.  Good luck!!”

Let it Rot is a free program for youth aged 13-18. The start date is February 5th and it will run Saturdays from 3:15-5:15 until mid-June. The program will provide participants with hands-on opportunities to learn about growing food and food security, composting, soil science and sustainability on site at the Compost Education Centre. Sessions will involve breaks, snacks and will aim to build community with the group.  Students can sign up using this link which has all sorts of information about the program as you click through the different sections.
