Students in grades 10, 11 & 12, please check the Assessment lists posted outside the Main Office and Cafeteria.  Assessments will be written January 22nd – 26th.  If you have any questions, please come to the Office.

There will be a meeting at lunch Friday, January 19th in room 300 for ALL Track and Field athletes interested in attending the Track Tour for spring break 2025 to Disneyworld  in Orlando Florida.

Grade 11’s interested in cancer research over the summer are invited to apply to the Xavier Pelletier High School Summer Internship Program at the Trev & Joyce Deeley Research Centre.  You need to have completed Life Science 11 or Anatomy and Physiology 12 with at least 85% by the end of grade 11 to meet the criteria.  There will be a meeting in the Career Centre on Jan. 17th at lunch for any interested students.

WEST x Schneider Electric Project
January 22 – April 8 | University of Victoria | Free!
Are you a female-identifying high school or undergraduate student interested in kick starting your engineering career with a real-world project? Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology (WEST) is currently recruiting for their upcoming project in collaboration with Schneider Electric. Students will work in teams to design and build solutions to real-world problem with the support of industry mentors. No STEM experience required! Interested students can submit an application here.

Are you interested in STEM?  UVic Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology offers grade 11 and 12 females to join the Schneider Electric Project from Jan. 22, to Apr. 8, 2024 to build your skills, test out Engineering and strengthen university applications.  The commitment of work will be 3-6 hours a week.  You will meet on Mondays from 7-8:15pm.  For more information please see the website: www.uvicwest.com

The University of Alberta is offering a U of A Getaway!  Twenty lucky students will be selected to visit North Campus in Edmonton from May 24-26, 2024.  This is an opportunity to test-drive a top 5 Canadian University, and to see first hand if Edmonton and the U of A are the right fit for you.  If selected, your experience will include accommodations, travel expense reimbursement and a whirlwind weekend of exciting events both on campus and in Edmonton.  More information about this experience is available at www.uab.ca/getaway  Applications will be accepted until the end of day on Jan. 31st, 2024.

UVic’s Gustavson School of Business is offering a free online workshop, Adulting 101: personal finance for students planning for college and university next week.  It is a great workshop for all students in grades 10-12 to plan for post-secondary.  The online session has two options:  December 12th at 6:00 pm (PST), or December 13th at 9:00 am (PST). Dr. Michael King will be covering some key components like budgeting for your first year of education, how to establish your credit scores, and more.   Students can sign up on our website here.  The registration button is below the description of our weekly info sessions for our BCom program.

Volunteering Opportunities

UVic is looking for volunteers for their Tsukino-Con Anime Convention. Tsukino-con is an all-weekend event taking place February 23rd to 25th 2024 on campus. They have volunteer spots open for a variety of different positions and offer an exciting and flexible opportunity for youth who are seeking volunteer hours toward their graduation. Tsukino-Con is a non-profit organization which hosts an exciting and eventful weekend of anime, games, and celebration of Japanese culture on campus at UVIC. Volunteers must be age 14 to apply. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have written consent from a parent or guardian. They are flexible with time commitments. Job Opportunities

Prepare your resumes!  The Butchart Gardens is hiring for spring and summer employment in most departments.  A Job Fair will take place on Wednesday February 7th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.  Department representatives will be available to provide information and receive resumes.
