We are collecting photos for the Winter Student Life section in the Oak Bay High Yearbook. Please upload any of your winter photos with Oak Bay students in them through this link: http://bit.ly/obwinterphotos. All people who submit photos will be entered into a draw for a $25 Tim Hortons Gift Card.

Reminder:  Every Tuesday at lunch The OB GSA meets in Mrs. Gillespie’s room (208) to hang out and chat.

The Board Game Café is back!  Come Friday’s at lunch to the Cafeteria for board games, music and fun!

Join the Kpop Club in room 143 at lunch on Friday.  Let’s learn about the Korean pop culture and dance moves.  All grades are welcome to join.

Try to find a photo of nutty for a chance to win a prize! This weeks riddle is: “Up on high I wave away but not a word can I say…”

Come to room 300 at 11:45 on Wednesday for siblings photos! Bring you and your sibling for a photo in the yearbook!

Would you like to write the University of Waterloo Math Contest?  Open to Grades 9-12. The 1 hour math contests this year will be on February 24th (Gr.9,10,11) and April 7th (Gr.12) during Wed Support block.  The cost for you is $2 (you’ll get a contest and chocolate bar on contest day!)  Go to the Waterloo Math Contest website for practice exams and solutions:   https://www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/contests/past_contests.html.   Fill out the Google Form at this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1_sMrSPSPk8RBzAJX-hkRM_cYRXRUrjZMiqiXR9t-Wa8/editPlease pay either Mrs. Smith in Rm 308 or Mr. Carter in Rm 307 by Jan.29th.  If you don’t pay by the end of this month, a contest will not be ordered for you.  The contest will be written in Rm 306, 307 and 308 on Feb.24th at 12:30pm sharp.  Good luck!

Numeracy 10 Assessment – Information Session
Mrs. Smith will be hosting an information session about the Numeracy 10 Assessment in the library on Thursday, January 21st  from 11:30am to 12:15pm, for any grade 10 who is scheduled to write the Provincial Numeracy Assessment.  First come, first served.  No need to sign-up. The Canadian University Event online was so successful in the fall they have decided to host a Winter Edition.  The CUE BC Winter Edition will be less focused on presentations and more focused on drop-in chats and Q&As so that students can get quick answers to their questions. Any high school student from anywhere in BC is invited to join us and connect with nearly 50 Canadian Universities all in one place!
Dates: Wednesday, January 20th & Thursday, January 21st
Time: 4 pm – 7 pm PST

Cost: FREE! But registration is required

Congratulations to Seoyoon Lee for being the winner of this week’s Mighty Oaks award!
Seoyoon is a leader in all three local jazz choirs, she leads warm ups, teaches parts, and sometimes directs entire rehearsals. She has achieved academic excellence, and is always willing to help other understand a concept or stay on top of their assignments. She is part of the band and jazz band program and sings or plays piano in most of Oak Bays 11 choirs. She is compassionate, hard working, dedicated, kind, approachable, influential, and has helped so many students cultivate a love of music and find the confidence to be the best musician and person they can be.
