CONGRATS TO OUR “BANDFEST” – BAND MEMBERS – As you are no doubt aware, 150 of our students were involved with a band competition up at UVic Thursday afternoon. Both the Jr. Concert Band and the Sr. Concert Band performed at the UVic Centre taking part in Bandfest. Both bands scored the highest marks possible in their divisions and the Sr. Band got bumped up a division and still achieved the highest mark possible!

When you see some of the band students today, give them a high five they were stupendous! 

DUKE OF EDINBURG PARTICIPANTS – there will be a meeting at lunch next Wednesday March 9th. Ask your questions and get your answers.

 

STUDENT STORE – Are you looking for Oak Bay Wear and accessories ? INTERACT CLUB – this *Monday, March 7: Weekly Club Meeting (Room 209 at Lunch)   Guest Speaker: Judy Fainstein, YesBC and Climate Reality Canada.  TOMORROW – * Saturday, March 5: Hike with Victoria Rotaract (Meet outside the UVIC Bookstore at 10am)

CRAIGFLOWER PROJECT – is collecting used or new books suitable for K – grade 5. Please hand in any suitable books to the boxes located on the first floor – Library and the Dance Studio. On the Second floor outside room 217 (Roberts).   Ends Friday March 11th. Thank you for providing books to our small friends.

JELLY BEAN COUNT – Fundraiser for the SPCA. Last chance guess today – March 4th. in the Student Plaza at lunch. .50 cents a guess. (Community Leadership)

WHERE’S NUTTY? – the “Where’s Nutty” clue for this week is “ It has keys that won’t open a door,   made of wood just like an oar. Fills the room with beautiful sound…..this is where Nutty is found!

 

CAREER CENTRE –A Sailor for a Day – Students who are 16 years old or older are invited to check out the waters with Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) MALAHAT’s unique “Sailor for a Day” program, on March 23, 2016.   This program is specifically designed with secondary level students in mind and with the intention of promoting awareness for those who may be interested in a part-time career with the Royal Canadian Navy.   This day will provide you with the following unique opportunities:                                         · To experience the exhilarating operation of a Ridged Hull Inflatable Boa (RHIB) on the waters off Victoria.

  • To learn about the rich history of the Royal Canadian Navy and Navy Reserve.
  • Learn the practical skill sets in sea survival and life raft training in a pool setting.

* All students who have signed up for the Dual Credit Geography or Psychology courses need to attend a meeting in RM 312 at lunch this Tuesday March 8th.  Please come prepared to complete at two page application form and discuss English assessment testing.

* Volunteer Opportunity – Margaret Jenkins is looking for 6-8 volunteers to do some child-minding on Monday, April 11th.  You need to be at the school by 6:15pm and would be finished by 8:45pm. The ages of the children are 3 -10yrs. You will be playing games, reading and colouring with them in the library while the parents listen to the speaker in the gym.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you are interested.
