LIVE DIFFERENT 2018 – Everyone who has applied for Live Different 2018, there is a mandatory meeting on Monday, Jan. 30th at lunch in Rm. 210.

 2017 OBH VALEDICTORIAN CANDIDATE SUBMISSIONS – are still being accepted this week deadline is Mon. Jan. 30th @4pm.  Forms available in the office.  Due to the office (Ms. S).

2017 YEARBOOK  Grad Write ups: Grade 12’s please submit your grad write up by this Tuesday, January 31st.  for the 2017 Oak Bay Yearbook. The write up must be a maximum of 100 words.  Go to bit.ly/gradwriteup2017​ to submit your entry.  Your write up may include anything you would like, a quote, well-wishes, memories, etc. The write up must be a maximum of 60 words, or will need to be edited by yearbook staff.  GIRLS RUGBY – First important meeting  is this Monday, January 30 at lunch.in Rm. 200. All girls interested (experience or not) in joining the OBHS girls rugby team (Provincial 7s Winners last year) should attend.

Congratulations to the Ski/Snowboard Team for some excellent race results  this past Monday.

Highlights include: The girls’ snowboard team – Bre Neufeld, Charlotte Arason & Claire Peters on their podium sweep!   The girls’ ski team WON the TEAM AWARD on Monday.  Patricia Horwood led the girls with a 4th place finish, Jane Illman was in 8th, closely followed by Molly Pearce in 9th and Lara Hollingsworth in 10th.  Well done ski girls!  The boys’ ski team TIED for the TEAM AWARD on Monday.  Marcus Forrester Hougaard led the boys with a 2nd place finish.  Logan Rampton was in 5th, Adam Whittaker in 10th, and Benedict Riess in 15th.  Great job ski boys!  The boys’ snowboard team was the SECOND PLACE team.  Lupo Bigatti led the boys with a 5th  place finish.  Hot on his tail in 6th was Matteo Arseni.  Alex Hutcheson was 10th, followed by Reese Gammon in 11th and Jack Boden in 13th.  Way to go boys!

OAK BAY RECREATION – Looking for something to do today after school? Oak Bay Rec is hosting a Minute to Win it Competition from 5pm-8pm in the Youth Centre. Based on the TV game show, this event will divide participants into teams that will compete against each other in a series one minute challenges. Prizes will be awarded to the team that wins the most the challenges. There will also be free pizza and pop for team participants. Hope to see you there!”

This week – ADVISORY CHALLENGE –  This is the first week of our “Advisory Challenge”.  We ask the students of the participating advisories to introduce yourself to a student at Oak Bay who you have not met. OPERA FANS – the Magic Flute by Mozart is playing at the Royal Theatre on Tuesday February 14th  at  7:00 pm. Tickets for students are $15.   Students interested should see Manjit after school room 213.

CAREER CENTRE

* Attention Grade 11 Science students. The applications have opened up for the Trev. & Joyce Deeley Research Centre Internship Program.  This is an opportunity to explore cancer research right here in Victoria, at the BC Cancer Agency.  An overall 85%  projected average in Biology 11 or 12 and any two of math, chemistry or physics is required.  Students will work full time hours for 8 weeks during the summer.  A $3000 bursary toward post-secondary education will be awarded to each student who successfully completes the 8 week program.  For more information please see Mrs. Giesbrecht, Mr. Carmichael, Mr. Atkinson or Mr. Shrubsole.  Applications are the Career Centre.
