New Today

February is Black History month, which was started in the US in 1926 to recognize and celebrate the many achievements and contributions of people of African and Caribbean descent.  The idea to spread to Canada in the following decades, and over time all provinces and jurisdictions gradually adoped the practice. Of course, appreciation is not limited to one month, and we recognize that Canada had been greatly enriched by generations, whether escaped slaved from America or the most recent arrivals.  If you want to learn more there is a display board on the Second floor open area, and soon there will be a collection of resources in the Library.  These are only a small sampling of amazing historical and contemporary leaders, but we can show our appreciation for artists, scientists, political pioneers, writers and athletes each and every month.

A huge congratulations to the Oak Bay Ski and Board Team for their standout performance in the last race of the Island Race Series this weekend, beating all other island schools in every single race. Earning top points in all four categories has secured their ticket to the Provincial Championships in Sun Peaks at the end of February. Way to go racers!

Just a reminder to all students who drive to school.  Please be mindful that the parking lots located at the front of the school and the rear of the school, by the gymnasium, are for staff only.  Student parking is adjacent the track, at the end of Goldsmith Ave.  Please also remember to obey speed limits while in the proximity of the school as we have been receiving complaints from our neighbors.  Thank-you!
