Math Students.  Do you want to make a difference during these trying times?  Many students need support with their math.  There are so many reasons to be a TA.  It feels good to help others.  You can receive credits.  You can receive volunteer hours.  You can receive reference letters.  Please contact your math teacher or contact tspray at tdspray@sd61learn.ca.  We could really use your help in math 9 through Calculus 12.  You can try it out for a while and if it is not the right thing for you, no worries.

U of Toronto – Experience Engineering – For Grade 9 & 10 students
Join U of T Engineering Recruitment staff for this special online presentation designed for Grade 9 & 10 students. The first 30 minutes of the event will be an overview of our Engineering programs, opportunities, academic requirements, and community.
After the presentation, there will be a Q&A period led by an Engineering Recruitment Officer where they will answer any questions you have about applying to, and studying at, U of T Engineering.

MINI MED SCHOOL 2022 – Friday April 29th @ Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina

Are you a grades 10-12 student with a passion for science and health research?
At Mini Med School, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the latest medical research happening in BC
  • Explore the diverse careers available in science and medicine
  • Engage with world-class researchers and health professionals
  • Network with like-minded students from across Vancouver Island

There are seats held specifically for students who self-identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis.

From the Math department:  The University of Waterloo Pascal, Cayley and Fermat Math Contests are still happening, on Wed. Feb.23rd from 10-11am in Rm 308 with Mrs. Smith.  18 students have already signed up to write this, but if you’d like to write this 60 min contest, please see Mrs. Smith in Rm 308 by Jan.21st since she needs to order the contests.  Cost is $2 which includes a full-sized chocolate bar!  Practice contests from past years are at:  https://www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/contests/past_contests.html.  Good luck!!”

Let it Rot is a free program for youth aged 13-18. The start date is February 5th and it will run Saturdays from 3:15-5:15 until mid-June. The program will provide participants with hands-on opportunities to learn about growing food and food security, composting, soil science and sustainability on site at the Compost Education Centre. Sessions will involve breaks, snacks and will aim to build community with the group.  Students can sign up using this link which has all sorts of information about the program as you click through the different sections.
