Pink Shirt Day is February 24th, 2021.

Do you want to be a doctor? Find out how you can earn your MD on Vancouver Island with the Island Medical Program (IMP), which delivers the UBC MD Undergraduate Program in collaboration with UVic and Island Health.
At this special virtual evening information session, you’ll learn about the MD Undergraduate Program and the IMP, the admissions process, what it takes to become a doctor, and what it’s like being in medical school. A Q&A period will follow the presentation.
The info session will be co-hosted by Dr. Shahin Shirzad, Assistant Dean of Admissions, and current IMP medical students. The IMP admissions coordinator will also be on-hand to answer questions.

Congratulations to Ian Carmichael for being the winner of this week’s Mighty Oaks award!
Ian has been an excellent contributing and encouraging member of Oak Bay and welcomes everyone into the community.

Mighty Oaks is a way to acknowledge especially extraordinary staff and students. Each week student council will select a name from those submitted and show why they make Oak Bay a better place. There will be a Barbs Rugby meeting for all players who want to participate this year in the gym at lunch on Thursday, February 4th .

The Oak Bay High Library and English department have a book club contest for you! Check out a book on our contest list, read it then bring it back and ask for an entry form. Lots of prizes to be won! The more you read the more chances to win. Ask for more details at the library. Contest runs till June

Design a poster advertising Pink Shirt Day!  Be as creative as you want, anything is allowed as long as it’s a hard copy.  All entries are due February 15th.  There is a cash prize of $50 for 1st place and 2nd place gets $25.  Hand your posters in to Mr. Price in the Black Box.

Try to find a photo of nutty for a chance to win a prize! This weeks riddle is: “Between Berlin and Venice…”

If you have any lightly worn or new athletic wear such as joggers, athletic shirts, shoes, or anything you would wear to the gym that you would be willing to donate to the Washington Foundation. Please drop them off in the bin outside the office.

GREENBRICKS CAREER EXPLORATION CONFERENCE  Explore your options! Students are invited to experience new career opportunities at this FREE career conference held remotely on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 from 9:00am – 2:30pm. The “green economy” is changing the face of the workplace in B.C. and around the world. This career conference is open to 150 students in grades 10-12.  This day allows you to interact with career mentors who have excelled in and are passionate about their green careers.  The day includes prizes and a chance to win a $500 scholarship!  Register here before the fills up!  https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/news–events

Volunteer with Saanich Parks
Municipal Appointments to Advisory Committees
The District of Saanich currently has a vacant position on the Parks, Trails and Recreation Advisory Committee for one youth member aged 16 – 24 years.
The purpose of the Parks, Trails and Recreation Advisory Committee is to advise Council and recommend policies on parks, trails and recreation matters, including services, facilities and specific community interests. The commitment is a 1-year term. The advisory committee meets on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 4:00 p.m., with the exception of July, August and December when there are no meetings.
