Senior girls soccer: final tryout is TODAY after school. If you can’t be there, please speak with Miss McKinty.

For all those students interested in playing Ultimate Frisbee for OBH please come to a short meeting TODAY at Lunch in the BIG gym.

If you cannot make the meeting then please email your name, grade and birthday to davep@islandnet.com or leave your name with Janna White in the office to pass onto Dave P.

The girl’s rugby team will have their first practice of the season TODAY after school.  Bring cleats and a mouthguard.

Interested in going to Japan, or hosting a Japanese student for 2 weeks?  See Mr. Russell at the beginning of lunch TODAY in room 219.

Today there will be Grade 10 Survivor in the gym at lunch.  Come out to watch and cheer on your favorite team!

Chinese New Year Celebration Dinner

To celebrate Chinese New Year/ Lunar New Year/Spring Festival, the Cultural Connection Club is organizing a dinner open to ALL students.  There will be authentic Chinese food (and possibly Korean food). The Celebration will happen on Monday, February 19th at 6:00pm in room 143.  Come right after school if you want to help our and learn how to cook Chinese food.   Sign-up sheet is outside room 202.

Marine TASK Spring & Summer Program

South Island Partnership (SIP) would like to offer a new and exciting program to our secondary students: Marine TASK.  This program centers on several trades through a marine lens.  Four safety certifications will also be achieved through the program.  Below, you will see that this has two parts:

an online course (TACC 109 – Trades Access Common Core) from April to June

face to face, hands on instruction at Camosun Interurban in July and August.

Applications are due by March 16, 2018.  Grade 11 or 12 students who are interested in completing the TACC 109 course by distance, and are willing to invest their summer months into this unique and valuable opportunity, please pick up an application in the Career Centre.  Click the link for more information. https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/trades.html

FIRST Tech Challenge

SMUS is hosting a FirstTech Challenge robotics competition on campus at (3400 Richmond Rd, Victoria, BC) on Saturday, Feb 17, and we have arranged a small STEM-focused university/career focused fair to take place from 11:00-1:00pm.  Anyone is welcome to come meet the reps and hear about the STEM focused offerings and options. Signage on campus will direct visitors to the hallway where the fair will be.

There are 9 organizations who are sending reps to the fair:

  • Sendwithus (Operations & Software Development)

This year, Discover Tectoria will be taking place on Friday, Feb 23rd from 11am to 6pm at the Crystal Gardens. This lands on a Professional Development Day, and VIATEC wants us to spread the word to students and parents!  Discover Tectoria is the Island’s largest tech expo and it’s a great way to spend a Pro-D Day.

Are you interested in Graphic Design?

On Thursday, March 1st, explore the world of graphic design at Pacific Design Academy!

Who: Grade 10, 11 and 12 students (16 seats available)

When: March 1st 2018, 9:30am – 1:30pm

Where: Pacific Design Academy

Why: To explore the industry of graphic design through hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations, and discussions

with PDA instructors, students, and local professionals.

What: Accepted students will be expected to make their own way to Pacific Design Academy, need to bring a lunch, notepad and pen. The rest of the materials will be provided.

Deadline for applications is Feb 20th.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht if you are interested and would like an application.
