Oak Bay Girls Basketball Run n Gun team will have a short meeting Monday the 11th at lunch at small gym.  We still have room for 2-3 more players, so those interested are encouraged to attend. Questions? Check in with Mr. Fast.

The Federal Student Work Experience Program Applications are due into Ms. Giesbrecht by first thing TODAY

A McGill University representative will be visiting the Career Centre at 3:00 pm on Friday April 8th for any grade 11 students who have questions about their programs, the application process and the requirements to get in.  Any grade 12 students who have applied for next year are also welcome to come by to ask questions about choosing courses, housing etc.

The Canadian Coast Guard, Western Region is holding an exciting event at the Victoria Base (25 Huron Street) on Friday, June 10th called “Coast Guard Days” where they will have several booths and demonstrations highlighting who they are and the type of work done at the Canadian Coast Guard – from helicopter operations, vessel tour, search and rescue, aids to navigation, and more. They are inviting middle and high schools from the Greater Victoria area to get youth excited about Coast Guard and to showcase the various job opportunities within the organization.  This will likely take place in the morning but will be confirmed once we have the number of students interested. You will need to email Ms. Giesbrecht sgiesbrecht@sd61.bc.ca by April 13th if you would like to attend. 

Camosun College and the South Island Partnership will be hosting a Women In Trades and Technology Exploration Day on April 21st.  Explore trades opportunities in electrical, fine furniture, sheet metal and automotive as well as tech opportunities in computer science, Camosun Innovates, mechanical engineering and electronics.   Please see the link https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/news–events  for more details and if you are interested pick up an application form from Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre and return it before April 13th.

Previous Announcements

Congratulations to members of the oak bay tennis team.  The team won their first game of the season defeating GNS. 8-3.  Oak Bay’s next game is next Wednesday at Henderson.

Learning to Lead™ is, a four-week leadership program with 2-hour zoom sessions every week, open to Grade 11 girls, transgender, and non-binary youth. Participants gain confidence through a series of interactive workshops and activities. They leave the program with greater self-awareness, and the inspiration to take on new challenges and opportunities. Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteer Position: Vendor Set Up/Tear Down
Position Description: Assisting in the Set Up/Tear Down of Market Equipment
Set-up assistant: Requires some physical strength and patience.
Time: 7:30am – 9:00am
Assist our manager and setup person with the layout of the market including market tents, chairs, tables and various equipment.   The placement of signboards and signage on the property. Requires some physical strength.

Tear-Down Assistant: Requires some physical strength and patience.
Time: 3:00pm– 4:00pm
Assist our setup person with the take down of the market including packing up the market tents, gathering of signage etc. on the property.   Offer assistance to our vendors who may need assistance with their tents etc.

Volunteer Position: Info/Coffee Kiosk
Info Kiosk Position Description: The Info Kiosk is a hub of activity as we welcome residents and visitors to our community market each week. Our visitors are mostly new to the area or tourists.
Coffee Kiosk Position Description – Duties include making & serving coffee, making change, keeping the area clean and set up and take down of the coffee equipment and the brochures on the info table.  The kiosk consists of two assembled tables.  A very pleasant way to meet persons attending the market and talking to them about our community.

Front & Exit Greeters Description – Be the face of our market.  Greet the customer and thank them for attending.  Count and record the number of attendees (a person counter is provided) Draw attention to the market features and the seating for our three sets of music.   Assist the customers in finding vendors they are seeking (location map and vendor list are provided).

Job Opportunities 

Film Camp in A Box is currently seeking senior students to fill paid roles in their spring break and summer programs.  They are a youth based digital media literacy workshop that engages young people between the ages of 8 – 14 in stop motion animation and filmmaking opportunities throughout Canada.
