NEW TODAY

A reminder to all students to respect our neighbours and their property while you are out and about at lunch hour.  We have had a couple of concerns/complaints lately and we need to make sure that we are being good neighbours.  This includes placing your refuge in a recycling unit, keeping your language in check and keeping off private property.  Let’s make sure we are living up to the pride we have in all of you.

Reminder:  Grade 12’s you have 2 weeks to complete your Grad Transition assignments – Final deadline is April 23rd.

Grade 11 breakfast is on Thursday April 11th at 8:25 in the Cafeteria.  Come enjoy cinnamon buns and fresh fruit.

uStart applications are due into Mrs. Giesbrecht by end of day TODAY.

Ocean Science Symposium – May 24th & 25th at UVic.  Two days of engaging and experimental educational activities focused on marine science and technology.  Please see Mr. Shrubsole for more information.

FLOWER POWER!  Oak Bay Interact will be selling flowers and notes to be delivered to your friends from April 8-11 at lunch in the Cafeteria.  1 flower for $3 or 2 for $5.  All proceeds go towards girls education in Malawi.

Grad 2019 Block Party – Friday, May 10th, 4:00-6:00pm at Willows Park Beach Drive.  Friends and family welcome!

 “Countess Maritza” is playing at The Royal Theatre on Tuesday, April 23rd at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $15.  Please see Manjit in room 213 if you would like to purchase a ticket.

“Kids for a Cause” Club is collecting any new and unused hygiene products to be donated.  Some of the things they need are:  toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap and more.  They will be collecting these items in the boxes around the school until April 15th.

Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology is a non-profit association that promotes, encourages and empowers women and girls in science, engineering and technology.  They offer an 8 week free eMentoring Program for STEM Careers.  Essentially students will pair up with a female role models across BC in science, tech, engineering & math careers.  Over email they will discuss career path, post-secondary life, work environments, finances, work/life balance, and what to do with your degree.  Applications are due by April 5th.  Please come and see Mrs. Giesbrecht if you are interested.

Volunteering

Would you like to volunteer at the upcoming District Career Fair on April 25th.  There is a morning shift and an afternoon shift.  See Mrs. Giesbrecht to sign up.

Need volunteer hours? Like working with kids? Live close to Margaret Jenkins Elementary? EMJS PAC is looking for reliable babysitters that can child mind during PAC meetings at the school, about two hours 7-9 pm on the last Thursday of each month. Contact jmcdiarmid@sd61.bc.ca for more info.

 Victoria Highland Games is looking for volunteers.  The 156th Victoria Highland Games &Celtic Festival will be held in Victoria on May 18-20, 2019.  Volunteer opportunities include: selling tickets, providing info to visitors, helping with fun competitions and activities, helping out in the Celtic Music tent and so much more!
