This is it, TODAY is the final deadline to submit your Grad Transition assignments.  If you have any questions, please see your GT advisor.

7’s Rugby has a lunchtime meeting TODAY.  Please allow the team to leave at 2:45 so they can get to their game at Reynolds.

Cultural Connection will be hosting a European cooking night on Thursday in the Foods room from 5pm to 8pm. Any people interested in learning how to cook different European foods are welcome to attend.

Submissions for the April Creative Writing Contest are due in to the library by 3:00pm on Wednesday, April 24th.  See your English teacher for details

EARTH WEEK
Tuesday(23) – Low electricity day. Lights off in Advisory, and low power for the rest of the day.
Wednesday(24) – Bring your own cup to school and get free coffee. The idea is to reduce the student body’s consumption of single-use coffee cups.
Thursday(25) – Alternative protein sources. Veggie dogs will be on sale in the cafeteria.
Friday(26) – Earth Week Kahoot in the cafeteria at lunch. There is a prize for the winner and the top five.

The Fairmont Empress is have one last Career Fair on April 29th from 3pm to 6pm in the Crystal Ballroom.  Meet with leaders from the hotel for an on the spot interview and see what The Empress has to offer!  Bring your resume with you.

The UVic Pre-Medical Club is having a Medical Symposium on April 25th from 6-8pm at the University of Victoria, Elliot building room 168.  Attend for a night of presentations by local professionals outlining their various careers.

Volunteers are still needed for the Career Fair on April 25th.  Please see Mrs. Giesbrecht if you are interested.

Grade 11 breakfast is Thursday April 25th at 8:25 in the Cafeteria.  Come enjoy cinnamon buns and fresh fruit.

Attention all Oak Bayers!  We have received word that Christopher Tang rescued Nutty from the evil squirrels by finding him in Bram Stoker’s Dracula in the library.  Congrats!  But, Nutty has gone missing again!  We received the following message from Nutty “It’s dark, cold and I don’t understand all these numbers!”  Good Luck Oak Bay!  #findingnutty 

Ocean Science Symposium – May 24th & 25th at UVic.  Two days of engaging and experimental educational activities focused on marine science and technology.  Please see Mr. Shrubsole for more information.

In partnership with several other school districts in southwestern British Columbia, secondary schools throughout the Greater Victoria School District are offering a fantastic opportunity for up to 40 female secondary students (ages 15 to 18) to participate in the Ocean Literacy & Leadership Academy/Camp for Young Women, taking place for a week this summer at the Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre on Hornby Island!

On Friday, May 17th Pro-D Day GNS is hosting an event with a non-for profit organization called Fast and Female for girls ages 8 to 18.

Fast and Female Ambassadors are Olympians, World Champs, Elite and Varsity athletes and they will spend a morning at Glenlyon Norfolk School empowering and inspiring girls to stay active and healthy in sports throughout their teens.  What is Fast and Female?   Event registration page here

SD61 and Pacific Design Academy are offering Summer Graphic Design Program again this summer.  This is an 8 week program including a foundation of graphic design knowledge, connection to local industry, advance soft skills and work experience.  Students will earn 4 credits for skills and development and 4 credits for work experience.  Application can be pick up in the Career Centre and are due into Mrs. Giesbrecht by end of day April 26th.

SD61 and Westcoast Adventure College have teamed up again this year to offer TALE, Tourism And Leadership Exploration.  Gain knowledge in wilderness, first aid, navigation, leadership and communication skills while enjoying the outdoors.  Students will earn 4 credits for coursework and 4 credits for work experience.  Applications can be picked up in the Career Centre and are due into Mrs. Giesbrecht by end of day April 26th.

Volunteering

Earn volunteer hours towards your graduation.  Victoria Grandmothers for Africa Dinner and Silent Auction Fundraiser – May 4th, 2019.  Volunteers are needed to serve food, clear plates and help with the silent auction.  As a volunteer you will need to be at The Da Vinci Centre at 5:00pm and would likely be finished by 9:00pm.  If you are interested please see Mrs. Giesbrecht as soon as possible.

Need volunteer hours? Like working with kids? Live close to Margaret Jenkins Elementary? EMJS PAC is looking for reliable babysitters that can child mind during PAC meetings at the school, about two hours 7-9 pm on the last Thursday of each month. Contact jmcdiarmid@sd61.bc.ca for more info.

Victoria Highland Games is looking for volunteers.  The 156th Victoria Highland Games &Celtic Festival will be held in Victoria on May 18-20, 2019.  Volunteer opportunities include: selling tickets, providing info to visitors, helping with fun competitions and activities, helping out in the Celtic Music tent and so much more!
