Our Oak Bay Rowing Team had an amazing weekend on the water with some fantastic results!
– Nicolas Poppe and Aidan Close earned 2nd place in the Experienced Double.
– Rowan Lawlor, Jefferson Kreek, Charlotte Erickson, Logan Weaver, Oliver Wilks, Kuzey Yayley, Siena                          Garman, Emily Browne, and coxswain Ivy Lawlor finished 2nd in the Experienced Eight.
– Ella Hostad, Kimiya Jeldi, Nora Then, Audrey Mycroft, Faye Belcourt, Nadia Karim Martinez, Mariam Karim Martinez, Kenzie Van den Berg, and Autumn Hamilton took 2nd in the Mostly Novice Eight.
– Aidan Close, Kuzey Yayley, Alex Appleton-Monraz, and Liam Sawatsky brought home 1st place in the Experienced Quad.
– Charlotte Erickson, Siena Garman, Emily Browne, and Ivy Lawlor also won 1st place in the Experienced Quad!
Congratulations to all our Oak Bay rowers for their hard work, teamwork, and impressive results. Way to go, Bays!

Grade 9 Boys Basketball tryouts will be held Friday from 7-8:30 pm in the small gym and Sat from 5-6:30 pm in the big gym. All Grade 9 boys are encouraged to come out.

Attention Oak Bay Ski & Snowboard Team! Our first dryland training is this Friday, November 7th, at 7:30 a.m. in the small gym. This is your last chance to show interest in joining. Girls who snowboard—we’re holding a short meeting Wednesday at lunch in the Choir Room for anyone interested in joining. Beginners are welcome —just bring your stoke and come check it out!

Junior Girls Basketball Tryouts – TONIGHT at 6:30 pm in the small gym. Everyone should attend this tryout if you wish to play on the A or B team. The Art & Culture Trip will be selling Pizza at lunchtime on Friday to fundraise for next summer’s trip.

UBC Medical Outreach will be in the Career Centre on Nov. 4th at lunch.  The Ambassador Program is where current MD students give presentations to high school students about the admissions process and share their journeys to becoming medical students.  If you are thinking of becoming a doctor, you should attend the information session.

Oak Bay students and parents are invited to an Art & Design Fair hosted at St. Michael’s University School on Tuesday, November 4th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Sun Centre Common.  This event is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in the visual arts, design, and creative industries to explore post-secondary options, meet representatives from leading institutions, and get inspired by a wide range of programs and career paths. Prospective Student Information Session in Victoria University of Toronto will be here at Oak Bay on Nov. 7th at lunch in the Career Centre.  If you are unable to make it to our session, they will also be at St. Michael’s University School on Nov. 5th from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm.  This event is for prospective students and their families, and supporters. Students can register here.

UVic Law is hosting a BC Law School Information Session open to anyone interested in applying to a BC law school or learning more about the application process. PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to the Oak Bay Cross Country team that competed this weekend at the Provincial Championships in Nanoose Bay.  The Junior Girls team placed 9th overall, and our Junior Boys placed 5th with Vince Helms finishing in 12th place.  The Senior Boys team finished 5th overall, and our Senior Girls team won the provincial championship title with Claire Babiuk finishing in 1st place, Zoe Lubben in 11th, Kyla Kuntzee in 21st, Sara Campbell in 23rd, Ashlyn Mackie in 46th, Malina Chong-Simard in 52nd, and Kyoka Kurihara in 84th.  Congratulations on an incredibly successful cross country season Oak Bay!!

Go Eng Girl – Engineering for Every Body – Saturday, Nov. 22nd, 11:00 am @ UVic.  Go ENG Girl is a national event held by Universities across Canada, designed to introduce high school girls, non-binary, and gender-diverse youth to the world of engineering. Junior Achievement BC (JABC) TechWorks – All students can apply for this in-person one-day event to explore and learn more about careers in Mech Eng, Civil Eng, Electronics & Computer Science through hands-on learning.  This event will be at the Camosun Interurban Campus on December 4th from 9:30 am to 2:15 pm.  Bus transportation and lunch will be provided.  Applications can be picked up in the Career Centre and are due by November 3rd, but don’t delay applying, as spots are limited.  https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/news–events

Volunteering Opportunities

Greater Victoria Green Team is looking for volunteers for several days in November and December to help improve the environment.  You will have an opportunity to plant native species and remove different invasive species.  This is the type of volunteering that all students, including international students, can take part in.  Please see the link for the dates, details, and the QR code.  https://oakbaycareercentre.weebly.com/job–volunteer

ReStore is looking for volunteers. They have two locations – Victoria ReStore at 721 Vanalman Avenue, and Westshore ReStore at 849 Orono Avenue.  Both stores support Habitat Victoria, helping to raise funds for local working families to achieve affordable homeownership in our local communities.  ReStores are open 7 days per week, with a particular need for weekend volunteers. Student volunteer shifts are 2-4 hours between 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (11:00 am – 5:00 pm on Sundays).  Students are welcome to request specific shifts, and we can be very flexible for the most part.   More specifics on this can be discussed at the time of application.   They ask that students commit to at least their full 30 hours with us (100 for WEX). On-the-job training is provided.  Anyone under 19 years must have parent/guardian permission.  16+ only.  Volunteers must be able to work independently, follow directions, and also collaborate with employees and other volunteers.   • Receiving and sorting donations
  • Cleaning and tagging donations
  • Merchandising the store floor
  • Keeping the store clean and tidy
  • Moving furniture and merchandise
