It is Anything But Cars Week.  Raffle tickets are being handed out on Monday and Wednesday for some prizes.

Get an ice cream sundae in front of the Cafeteria on Wednesday, June 4th, at lunch.

Police Springboard – Are you interested in becoming a police officer?  SD61 and Saanich Police have teamed up to give students a one-day taste of being an officer.  The event will be on June 10th from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm.  Students will have the opportunity to explore the world of policing through interactive demonstrations, behind-the-scenes tours, and scenario-based simulations.  Pick up an application from Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre.  Applications are due June 4th.

Congratulations to the Rugby Teams for a great season.  Junior Boys ended up 6th in the province, Senior Boys won the Bronze, and Senior Girls won a silver medal.

Canadian Coast Guard Days – June 6th.  An interactive event for students to get excited about the Canadian Coast Guard and to showcase the various job opportunities within the organization.  Oak Bay will take a small number of students to the event at 10:15 am on June 6th.   Students can expect to leave Oak Bay at about 10:00 am and return back to school around 12:00 pm.  Here is a video link to last year’s event to see what to expect.  https://www.dropbox.com/s/qlymb0lm3mlbasd/CCG%20day%20Video%20for%20schools-V2.mov?dl=0  If you are interested in attending, please see Ms. Giesbrecht or Mr. Alexander in the Career Centre to register.

Volunteering Opportunities

Elgin Gardens (1787 Elgin Rd.) is a seniors’ subsidized housing looking for volunteers to help in their garden.  There would be a lot of digging, turning soil, and weeding involved (great workout!)  Please see Ms. Giesbrecht in the Career Centre if you want the contact information.

Oaklands is looking for volunteers to support us with our Markets and Special Events!
Join the vibrant team, special event volunteer team! Roles include helping with setup and take down, working on the green team, supporting the info booth, supporting with music tent setup and take down, supporting with arts and crafts tables, and more!
