Oak Bay Band

More than 200 students from Grade 9 to Grade 12 are involved in the nationally-recognized Oak Bay Band program directed by Mr. J. Weaver.

Students earn academic credits for participation, but many build on their musical experience by also participating on an extracurricular basis.

There are six bands including the Junior Concert Band (Grades 9), Senior Combined Class Band, Senior Concert Band (Grades 10,11 and 12 or by invitation); Junior Jazz Band (Grades 9 and 10); Senior Jazz Band (Grades 11 and 12) and a Jazz Combo. These bands perform at seasonal concerts, various school - related events and assemblies, adjudicated festivals, and at other public events throughout the year.

Each year students have the opportunity to go on a band trip and these have contributed to many positive high school memories. Destinations have included Cuba, Mexico, Hawaii, Costa Rica, California, B.C., Alberta, Seattle and this year Disneyland.

The band receives support from the Oak Bay Band Parents Association for band travel and equipment. Parents are invited to get involved in the association either by volunteering on the executive or by supporting related fundraising activities.
